I have cruised with Royal Caribbean on several occasions and although I enjoyed this 10 nighter out of Venice on Splendour of the Seas I would say there were a few disappointments. Getting from the airport to the ship should have been pretty easy, take the AVTO bus which now costs 5 Euros per person to Piazalle Roma then pick up the free shuttle to the dock and check in. Wrong - no shuttle seemed to be available, so we made our way on the peoplemover at the train station thinking that the shuttle must picking up from there. Wrong again. We had to drag our suitcases quite a distance in the midday heat along with all the other cruisers who tried to catch the (non existent) shuttle. Check in was okay but not nearly so well organised as other cruises I have done. Stateroom was excellent as usual, food was adequate but not exceptional, service on board was good, but not exceptional, entertainment was good but again nothing exceptional. Drinks were pretty expensive at $7.99 for a beer and they seem to have invented a few new charges that I don't remember having paid for before. We used the shuttle bus from the port into Mykonos and also Corfu and were horrified that a bus journey lasting less than 5 minutes cost $10 per person. We took a local Crete bus into Chania which was about the same distance and it only cost 2 or 3 Euros. We had elected to pay our gratuities in dollars at the end of our cruise and discovered that the £58.58pp that we would have paid at time of booking was now $97.50pp, checked the exchange rate at Guest Relations Desk, $1.49/£1, so a mysterious discrepancy of about $10pp that no one seemed to have an explanation for and quite frankly had no intention of finding out about. The person on the desk just kept on asking us if we wished to pay and completely blanked any questions I had, so I paid and thought I would write a letter of complaint to the company. I have since read a few Customer Complaint reviews and now realise that it would be a complete waste of time as Royal Caribbean do not appear to be very helpful with regard to complaints.Over all we enjoyed our 'unexceptional' cruise but I don't think we'll cruise with Royal Caribbean again.

Cabin Review

Large Interior Stateroom

Cabin K

Plenty of storage space for 2 people, usual bathroom size which was adequate. Bed was very comfortable, but sheets only changed once in 10 nights, towels, every day or when required. Stateroom quiet and peaceful, although a bit too hot for us even with the aircon turned down to maximum
