We travelled as a group of 5 from Australia, arranging 3 balcony cabins together so we could enjoy the fresh air and conviviality of the balconies during the cruise. We'd successfully done this before with Celebrity but to our horror, found out the RCCL allow smoking on balconies and we had smokers above us, below us and on either side of us. Lesson 1. If you're a non-smoker don't book a balcony with Royal Caribbean.Embarkation. Fine. No delays at all and very helpful.Staterooms. Very satisfied. Clean and large. Serviced exceptionally well by our cabin attendant.Dining. Main dining rooms were excellent as was their service. Windjammer was a bit hard to get seats but we rarely used it, so was not an issue. WE also ate a Portofino which was first class.Shows. Generally good but we found we had to get to the theatre 30 minutes beforehand to obtain a seat.Bars. Useless. They were all just too busy - a sign of the number of passengers on the Ship.Activities. Very limited. All the quizzes were targeted at the British (eg sports quiz question - name of Newcastle Football Club home ground.) They pushed Bingo at $22 a go and there wasn't much else to do.Tours. Good value and well organised.Disembarkation. Poor. Luggage retrieval was a shamble.Other issues.Lifts. With 600 children, many parents with pushers and many disabled passengers, the lift service was useless.Pools. We had little opportunity to use them due to the weather but as I ran the jogging track at 8am I saw countless selfish people putting towels on lounges before going to breakfast. Lounges were impossible to get on the few sunny days.Gibraltar fire. The crew were excellent. Pity some of the passengers panicked with very little reason.Would we cruise with RCCL again? Not until they change their smoking policy and only on a smaller ship.
Excellent balcony but could not be fully utilised due to smoking policy.
