Cabin: Mid-Ship Balcony

This was our first cruise with NCL and we loved it. We cruised last year in Europe with Royal Caribbean and we much preferred the Norwegian Spirit. At first we were worried because the ship was quite a bit smaller than the RC Navigator of the Seas and our balcony room was also much smaller. Having said that, within a day, we were used to our room and the smaller Spirit ship really grew on us. It had pretty much everything we needed as we didn't use the climbing walls & large sports facilities on the Navigator anyways.

The entertainment was WAY better than RCL, the staff very attentive and polite. The food was comparable and we really liked that tables were easily available at breakfast in the buffet. The excursions were handled well in that there were always NCL excursion staff at the port to guide you. We didn't have to line up for more than a few minutes for anything -- front desk, restaurants, etc -- other than chocolate buffet but although the line was huge, it moved really fast and the chocolate buffer was an amazing sight. Getting off the ship was easy and it was a nice touch to have some officers and staff line up to say goodbye.

Sure, there were some things we didn't like -- smoking was allowed pretty much everywhere that was outdoors so when we find a spot by the pool, smokers would sit beside us and we would have to leave. We didn't like the way some people dressed at dinner in the formal dining rooms but that wasn't the fault of the cruise line.

Maya Keys Private Retreat - totally worth the money! Great snorkeling right off the pier. Lovely grounds, clean facilities. Came with lunch. Was the best value for excursions on this cruise.

Mexican Cuisine workshop - expensive for what it was. I expected a real cooking class but it was cooking stuff already prepared and drinking. The beach at the resort was OK -- not great. Some of the guys were still quite hungry after the workshop -- you eat what you cook -- as it wasn't enough for them. They tried going to the buffet in the resort afterwards but was told by resort staff that the buffet wasn't included in the workshop price. I would not recommend this one although it was fun after a few drinks but you can drink anywhere.
