Fabulous family cruise on Dream

Sail Date: May 2011
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Las Palmas
Just returned from fab 7 night cruise on the DREAM with our extended family which included my husband and myself, our daughter, son-in-law and two grandaughters aged 6 & 8 plus our son, his partner and their son, Zach, aged 2.

This was booked as my 65th birthday celebration, hence taking all the family.

The day I booked this cruise last September was the same evening that the ship appeared on Watch Dog. I booked cruise at approx 5 pm and by 8 pm was wondering what on earth we had done! Nevertheless, after much heart ache and apprehension, imagine our absolute delight on arriving at our cabins how thrilled we were with them, we had booked inside cabin for ourselves and two outside plus cabins for the others, all of which were really lovely cabins.

We had a wonderful week cruising, the crew and cabin staff, especially our waiter, Alvis, were always very attentive, nothing was too much trouble which with childred aged 2, 6, & 8 was more than we could More ask for. The entertainment at the shows was exceptional, every night was a different show, and matched any West End show we have seen! The food was excellent in whichever restaurant we visited and the weekly midnight buffet was truly breathtaking, like visiting an art gallery! Took many photos. As our children and their families had never cruised before, they were all very impressed and enjoyed the experience. We visited many lovely locations and enjoyed them all.

My tip to anyone thinking of travelling on The Dream, is DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THE WATCHDOG PROGRAMME. Thomsons never said she was a new ship, just a new ship to them, and what a charming ship she is. We have travelled with Fred Olsen and Royal Carribean in the past and must say we will definitely travel with Thomsons on a cruise again, hopefully in the near future. Embarkation and Debarkation very easy and quick. Less

Cabin review:

1 inside cabin, very spaceous, plenty of storage space, quiet. Overall very good. 2 outside plus cabins, exceptionally spaceous, very impressive, quiet and good views from windows. Very good.

Port and Shore Excursions

Docked at the World Trade Centre, fantastic, walked off ship and straight onto all the sites you could want, Las Rambles etc., easy for buses and taxis and great if you just wanted to pop back to ship or even return early. Very impressive.

Should have docked at Calvi and been tendered ashore but strong winds prevented this so relocated to Ajaccio which was very pleasant port and easy access to town.

We actually docked at Liverno which is a massive container port, no walking in port allowed so were shuttled bused off,. Not pretty but the shuttle buses were very frequent and easy to use.

Pretty views of Genoa from ship. Easy walking into town.

Very good port, except that it was our last one and all very reluctant to leave. Easy transfers to airport.

Again an industrail type port and were bused in again, but buses very punctual and easy drop off for town.
