I will start off by saying that I had a wonderful and relaxing cruise on the Norwegian Jewel. We started off by flying into New York City a day ahead of time to take in the sights and sounds of the city. On the morning of the cruise, we woke up early so we would be en route to the ship by noon. When we arrived at noon, there were already several hundred people in line. We went through customs easy enough and began our wait in line. The line moved pretty fast and before long we were at the front of the line. A representative from NCL handed us a form to fill out regarding the current status of our health. Before I could finish the form, it was time for us to step to the counter to set up our on board account and get our lifeline, I mean key card. With the account all set up, we headed for the gangway. We were stopped just before boarding to take a picture, which by the way was the beginning of many photo opportunities that ended up being on display for you to purchase for an outrageous amount of money. Once on board, we walked around to get accustomed to our ship. We noticed right away that most people were in line at the Garden Cafe or already in the pools. We were able to get into our stateroom at two o'clock. We had an inside cabin and it was very nice. I know a lot of people don't like the inside, but I liked the fact that it was very dark and I was not disturbed in the morning when the sun came out. Actually, for our next cruise, we will get an inside cabin again as I can't see spending that extra money to sit on the balcony when I can go on deck anytime that I want. Our cabin was mid-ship and it was very quiet most of the time. Our cabin stewards Marlon and Edwin were exceptional. They knew our names by the end of the first night and everytime they saw us they called us by our names. We loved the towel animals that were left nightly. On Thursday night when we came back to the cabin, the first thing I did was to look for the towel animal. It was not there and we were disapointed. So about 15 minutes later my cabin mate just happened to look up and there was our towel animal. It was a monkey hanging from the ceiling. That was so great. The food was great and we could eat 24 hours a day if we wanted. We had such great selections that we never felt the need to have to pay for a specialty restaurant. Tsars was so elegant it seemed like it should have been a specialty restaurant. On dress up or not nights, we went to Tsars. We loved the washy, washy people located as you enter the Garden Cafe. About midweek, someone made a comment that it was getting old. I almost turned around to tell him that he had other choices and it was not necessary for him to even come to the Garden Cafe. There was no reason for him to be so rude. That is their job and they do it well. They sure made me smile and dance as I entered the buffet. The shows were nice as well. I loved the crew show as well. I have read other comments people stating they don't like those shows. Well, don't go. Overall, the ship is a beautiful ship. Toward the end of the cruise, people had become so accustomed to being served and cleaned up behind that they began just depositing whatever they had in their hands anywhere when they were finished. Example. Someone may have been finishing a plate they took out of the restaurant near the elevator. They would just leave the plate right there on the floor next to the elevator. How lazy and disgusting. We went to NCL'S private beach The Great Stirrup Cay. It was nice. If people would follow directions, the tendering process could have gone more smoothly. I know a lot of people have complained that there is nothing to do. Well in my humble opinion, it's a beach. What do you do on the beach? Have we gotten so accustomed to being entertained that we can't just relax and enjoy the surroundings. That was a lot of work for them to bring food over the the island to feed us. They had a band and they had other family activities. I guess some people will never be satisfied no matter what. When it was time to leave the ship, things could have gone more smoothly as well, however again, people do not follow simple directions and it creates chaos. I would definitely sail with NCL again. Freestyle is the only way to go.
