First of all we are not seasoned cruisers, having completed 5 cruises, once on the old Oriana in the mid seventies old Arcadia and the Oriana. Our first criteria when selecting a cruise is budget, the second being the time of year and finally destination. We always book well in advance as this normally gives us free parking at Southampton, on board credit and plenty of time to save up (like most people). As previously mentioned budget is our main priority, paying just over £900 each for a inside cabin on a ship we have not sailed on before I thought was good value.EmbarkationWe always drive down to Southampton as we only live a 100miles away and find this gives us gives us flexiability in stopping for a coffee etc. This is the first time we have used the Ocean Terminal. From handing the car keys over to having a light meal on-board was under a hour. PandO have got this down to a fine art which we find totally hassle free.Cabins.We always book an inside cabin and on this ocassion we got a freebie upgrade to a higher deck. As on previous ships the cabins are spacious, clean with plenty of wardrobe space, flat sreen television with interactive service for viewing your on board account 24 seven. Bathroom, small but funtional, towels changed daily. Kieran our cabin steward a "star".Ports of Call We opted for the Canaries, due to the time of year (October 17). The weather was brilliant except for Madeira where the heavens opened. I cannot comment on any of the organised excursions as we tend to do our thing, and, quite frankly tend to find these trips a little over-priced.FoodAlways of good standard, good choice and always well presented. We found our waiters well trained, polite and only to willing to join in conversation (time allowing).EntertainementSomething for everyone,Headliners brilliant, packed house every night. Venue a bit small for the amount of people on board and had to stand some nightsThe Ship.Much bigger than we have been used to, and does take a few days to find your way around. Anyone booking a short cruise, say 4 days or less and new to cruising would not get the full benefit of this ship, and would probably be better sailing on something smaller.GeneralWe are not PandO diehards but I go along the lines "If its not broken, dont fix it". Bar prices reasonable, with no 15% gratuity as with other cruise lines, and you decide how much you tip. Looking forward to our next cruise on Ventura 3rd September 2011
