My wife and I took this as our 9th cruise, our first on RCCL. We are both 61 years old. We have mostly cruised on NCL. We coaxed 2 other couples to join us (first cruise for each of them). The Good:1) The ship is beautiful and we loved it. It was clean and was kept that way for the duration of the cruise. We were told that the ship was full, but we could always easily find empty lounge chairs and never felt crowded anywhere at any time.2) Embarkation - was very easy - very organized, quick, and courteous.3) Our waiter, Erol, and assistant waiter, Marianna, were great and made every dinner very enjoyable. They always went out of their way to make sure that we were well taken care of. 4) The food was good - some dishes were really good - no complaints in this department.5) We really appreciated this ship didn't nag us as much as NCL does about taking pictures every other minute and incessantly trying to sell ship extras - it was much more relaxed and enjoyable.6) Our room was excellent - clean, nice layout, very quiet, and plenty of hot water!7) We used the early disembarkation program. We went for a quick breakfast, were done by 7:00 am, and walked right off the ship. This was the easiest disembarkation we have ever encountered.8) We only saw one show - it was typical cruise fare - we found it entertaining. The Bad:1) There was no lobster night or baked Alaska night! This is our 9th cruise and it is the first time these traditions have been broken. This was a giant disappointment. My wife and I had spoken of the fun of these events to coax 2 other couples to join us on the cruise. We were all very disappointed when it never happened. I am wondering if this is unique to RCCL?2) We signed up for the automatic tipping when we booked the cruise. Onboard, we received a notice that we would receive vouchers to put into tip envelopes so that we could pass them out to the appropriate staff. At 3:00 pm on the last day of the cruise we hadn't received our vouchers even though the other 2 couples we were traveling with did. I made a trip to Customer Service (30 minute line) and was told we would have them by 5:00pm. At 6:15 pm we still hadn't received them. Another trip to Customer Service (30 minute line) - this time the girl hand wrote the vouchers for me, and told me to put them in a box labeled "tips for staff'" (or something of that nature), and I did so. This became awkward at dinner since I now didn't have an envelope for our excellent waiter and assistant waiter. I explained the situation, but I hope they didn't think I was trying to stiff them. I wish there was a way to verify that they really got my tips because they really deserved them.3) There is a switch in the cabin to hear the Captain's announcements. It didn't work in any room - it only played music. Consequently we heard none of the announcements.4) Our final on-board bill wasn't delivered to us. On the morning of our departure day, I had to go to Customer Service (30 minute wait) and request it. Summary:We liked a lot about RCCL, but #1 & #2 in "The Bad" were a real disappointment for our party of six. We would be hesitant to take another RCCL cruise because we don't know what to expect. If we return it would be based on getting a bargain price, but we would not return based on loyalty to the line.
