A little late in posting this review - we cruised on Celebrity Equinox from 21 March- 1 April from Fort Lauderdale to Cozumel, Costa Maya, Puerto Limon, Colon, Cartegena and Grand Cayman. This was our first Celebrity cruise, but our 5th cruise in total; previously we have cruised with RCI and P&O. It will definitely not be the last one; we thoroughly enjoyed just about everything and if we could only cruise with one company from now on we would choose Celebrity every time.We stayed in the Hilton near the cruise terminal the night before the cruise started. We went for a walk to find somewhere to eat in the evening; found a great spot for a drink and good inexpensive food at 'Bimini Boatyard' (Happy Hour 4.00-7.00pm every day). To get there you turn right after exiting the car park in front of the hotel, walk about 500 yards and turn right when you see the Renaissance Hotel. Keep walking and you will see 'Bimini Boatyard' in front of you. There were lots of guests at the Hotel who were also on the cruise. Celebrity staff set up a table in the lobby and you get a numbered ticket which will determine how quickly you will get on a bus to take you to the ship. This process was a bit chaotic as the staff didn't co-ordinate very well together so there must have been a lot of people confused about how the system was supposed to work and waited longer than they needed toWe enjoyed the welcome on Equinox with a glass of 'bubbly' as we went aboard. We headed for the 'Solstice' deck (Deck 16) straightaway as we had read about this deck from Cruise Critic. It was a great place for sunbathing and was very quiet for the first few days because, as predicted by others, most people didn't know it was there. However, it appeared that most people were happier being down by the main pool in any case.We were in 'Concierge' class which meant we had a bottle of champagne in the room and canapEs. The canapEs were free every day but you had to be in the room to receive them at a specific time so we didn't bother again as we spent every afternoon at the Sunset Bar at the Lawn Club, our absolute favourite place on Equinox, more of which later. Our cabin was on Deck 10 and unfortunately suffered partially from the aircraft carrier effect and didn't get as much sunlight as we would have liked. We don't think we will bother with Concierge again, probably not worth the extra expense. What we would thoroughly recommend, if you are not teetotal, is the 'Classic' drinks package which included about 80% of all the alcoholic drinks available on the ship, including most cocktails. You also get 'sodas' in cans, not from those horrible machines, and really good coffees. We paid around £330 each for the package, £30 a day over the 11 nights of the cruise. With wine priced at the equivalent of £6 per glass including the obligatory 15% tip, you don't need to drink that much to make it worthwhile. We certainly hope that Celebrity will continue with this and that other cruise lines will follow suit. The main restaurant was excellent; we were 'freedom dining' but rarely had to wait for a table for two, although we did eat with others a couple of times. You are served wine by the glass (unless you bought a bottle from a more expensive wine list not included in the 'Classic' package). We thought the wine service was slow during meals which may have been deliberate; maybe we drink too much! We made some new friends and also realised how interested American people are in the British royal family, they seemed almost obsessed with it as it was in the build-up to William & Kate's wedding. We tried the Thai restaurant but were not really impressed with it. The buffet had a huge choice at every meal time with lots of space as well so there were hardly any queues, apart from the ice cream section. The entertainment in the main theatre was aimed at the American guests but was OK. Good music shows and a very good singer; Laura Hamilton. We also enjoyed 'Juke Box' an acapella group that sang most evenings all around the ship. The cruise director, Dru Pavlov was excellent; very approachable and friendly. There is an indoor pool which was not very busy but was a very quiet and relaxing area for those guests who, unlike us, don't want to be in the sun all day. No children allowed either. Our favourite spot on the ship was the Lawn Club, especially right at the back at the Sunset Bar. There were very comfortable seats there and very friendly and helpful staff who catered for us with drinks from the classic package on a regular basis. A special mention for Inyoman; our favourite barman. All cruise ships have an outside bar at the rear but this one was very special. We found Celebrity a far more relaxing experience than other companies; even down to the lack of announcements over the tannoy which was a refreshing change to most others. We made a comment about how Celebrity could improve its service and were very impressed that our suggestion was acknowledged and acted upon straightaway. We did a few Celebrity excursions and they were generally well organised. One that was a disappointment was the transport arranged for the trip to the boat for Stingray City in Brand Cayman - no air conditioning and very uncomfortable USA-style school buses.Having since been on another cruise (NCL) in May we are even more convinced that Celebrity is the cruise line of choice for us in future. We are already booked with them for August 2012!
