Sail Date: Apr 2011

We had sailed on the Emerald before and our expectations were high. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met and we may cancel a future Princess cruise we have booked. We understand that cruising is personal and we all have different tastes, but the cost cutting seems to have impacted the quality a great deal. Our opinions on a variety of topics, some good and some bad, are listed below:STATEROOM: When we arrived in our cabin we were surprised that there was no top sheet on the bed. We had to ask for the sheet. We liked the design of the room with a wall/closet between the bathroom and the bed. Storage was ample and better than RCCL ships.CUISINE. Food selection was not exciting and in fact the hot soups were so salty that they were inedible. We stopped ordering hot soup, as did other passengers seated near us. Other items seemed to be over-salted. I did mention this to the head waiter, but nothing changed.SERVICE. Cabin steward and head waiter did an excellent job and were both friendly and helpful. Other ship personnel were friendly and always seemed to want to help.HEALTH. We noticed there were no hand-sanitizers in the main dining room the first few nights. We used our own. We were surprised at the lack of sanitation efforts. Even in the buffet, no one monitored the use of hand-sanitizers. It was not surprising that we had a VIRUS outbreak on the ship. While the ship took action (after the fact) it was too late. The captain's messages indicated the VIRUS infections were increasing each day. We took precautions and did not contract the virus.COFFEE SHOP. Yes, coffee shop! This was one of the better offerings. Wait staff was excellent, coffee variety and quality wonderful, and food offerings (especially fresh baked cookies) very good. One of the few highlight areas.ENTERTAINMENT. While the shows were mediocre, the movie offerings were wonderful. We felt like we were at a movie festival. It is also hard to beat Movies Under the Stars. First rate movies, popcorn, cookies, and blankets make this a great activity.
