Cruise ReviewVoyager of the Sea; April 17,2011I would love say this was a great cruise, but it just wasn't. Don't get me wrong, it was good. Let's say...very good. But a couple of factors kept it from being great. And probably only one of the factors can be placed on RCCL. (Though some might debate that RCCL could have more pro-active in the second one as well)Factor 1: Food in Windjammer. At best, it was mediocre. The last time we cruised (Radiance), we loved Windjammer and ate there most of our meals. But we were very disappointed in the quality of the food and the service in Windjammer on Voyager. Factor 2: So, so many (SO MANY!!!) children. Once we got onboard, we learned that the week of Easter/Holy Week is like spring break for Mexico, so nearly half the passengers were Mexican citizens. There were hundreds (no exaggeration) of kids on the ship. There couldn't have been more kids if it'd been a Disney cruise. And for the most part, they were totally out of control and seemed completely unsupervised. They were running down the cabin corridors like it was a racetrack. The noise level at the pools was intolerable. They sat in the balcony at the theatre and yelled at their friends below. They wandered the Promenade in large packs, making it difficult for others to get around them. If you got in their way as they ran up or down the stairs, you could likely be trampled. (Again, I am not exaggerating, my DP was nearly knocked down!) For us, Holy Week turned into "Holy Hell!" A couple of observations:Our D1 Balcony cabin was wonderful and we loved watching the sunrise every morning, drinking our coffee. What a great way to start the day!We had an adjoining cabin, and the kids (did I mention there were lots of children?) next door were apparently fascinated with the door between the cabins and constantly jiggled the handle. Again, not sure why the adults/parents never said anything...but it was annoying.FOD Meeting. We noticed on the Community Board that someone had posted the "Friends of Dorothy" meeting every evening at 5 pm in the Champaign Bar. We went three times and never saw anyone. I do think the term is a bit outdated and many may not even know what it means, so they don't attend. Birthday Cake. While onboard, we celebrated DP's birthday. I pre-ordered a cake to be delivered to our MDR table on Thursday night (DP's birthday). On Monday night, after we'd eaten our meal and our desserts, and were about ready to head to the show, the head waiter delivered the cake...lit candles and all. We (including our table mates) were too full to eat it. We were apologetic, and explained that we didn't know they would be serving it. (Otherwise, we wouldn't have eaten two desserts each!) The next day I asked Guest Services why it had been delivered on the wrong day and so late. The nice man promised to take care of it. On Wednesday night, around 9 pm, another cake showed up in cabin. (HUH?) Again, we had already eaten; DP was at the Ice Show and I was in bed reading. And on Thursday night (DP's birthday), just as we were leaving after our dinner, the head waiter showed up with yet another lighted cake. Once more, we were full and had to decline. So there were a total of three cakes, and we didn't eat any of them. It seemed to be a comedy of errors! It would have been nice to get some kind of notice from the waiter that they cake was being served so we wouldn't eat the other desserts. But Guest Services was very kind and took the charge off my SeaPass. We loved the ship; Voyager is beautiful and our cruise was something we'd looked forward to and planned for nearly 18 months. The food in the MDR was incredible and the service was impeccable. We ate at Portofino's and Johnny Rockets and loved both of experiences. (I moved from Southern California to Texas, so I really miss Johnny Rockets!)It was a fun cruise and we met some wonderful people. I would love to say it was great, but that's a bit of stretch. While onboard, we booked Mariner for next year, but we made certain to avoid Holy Week! If you don't have a high tolerance for large numbers of out-of-control kids, I'd recommend you also check on this before booking.

Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D1

The adjoining room was not a good situation. We could hear the children in the next room.
