We booked this cruise for ourselves and as a treat for our daughter and our 3 granddaughters. We choose this ship because we knew it had a great kid program and we could drive to the embark port and not have to fly. We stood in about 4 different lines, with many thousands of other passengers outside in the sun and wind for over 3 hours to finally board the Splendor. We were exhausted, hungry and sunburned when we finally got on board. It was by far the worst, most disorganized embark I have ever been through on any ship, and we have been on 16 cruises. Most of the crew didn't seem to know where to direct us after we registered and were given our room key-cards.The Staterooms: We had 2 adjoining staterooms with balconies. One was a quad (4 beds) for our daughter and her girls and ours was a standard double. They were very nice and we were able to open the gate between the balconies to make 1 long balcony. The steward was very good and great about cleaning and bringing ice every day. Luckily, our travel agent had sent a fruit/wine basket which all 6 of us fell on like hungry wolves.Dinning: We had an assigned dinner table at 6pm for the six of us. I found I really like this as we never had to wait to be seated and could just walk straight to our table at 6pm. Food and service were very good. We did not eat at the buffet much as it always seemed to have very long lines. Kids: About half of the passengers on board were kids. Many were rude, and there was lots of punching of all of the elevator buttons and much running up and down the hallways late into the night. Most of the time the hot tubs were crammed with kids. I felt the ship was very crowded.Tours: We did a snorkel trip on the Pez Gato 1. Very nice crew and this was loads of fun. The water was clear and there were lots of fish. The second tour was the sea lion encounter. This was fun and was supposed to include lunch and a soda for each of us. But then the people serving the lunch tried to charge us $2 each for the sodas. Since we paid almost $100 each for this tour, we did not appreciate this attempted ripoff and pointed to our wrist band which stated that the soda was included. We reported this to the tour desk when we returned to the ship.Disembark: This was almost worst than the awful embark!! Again, it was a 3 hour wait to leave. When we got down to deck 3 finally, they directed us out to a long gangway. Passengers were backed up on it, waiting to go through customs and though it was covered, the rain was blowing sideways at us and we had to stand on it for about 10 minutes getting soaked and standing in a half inch of rain water. They could have waited until it was cleared of people but they didn't seem to know it was raining and freezing cold or care. I felt like I was herded on and off of the ship by a crew that didn't care at all about the comfort or safety of its passengers.Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this cruise to anyone and will not ever be sailing with Carnival again. They need to get their act together. The Embark/Disembark really just SUCKED! We won't be back.
