* Background InformationWe have sailed 11 times with Princess. We started with Princess (many years ago) and although we enjoyed some aspects of RCI, we still come back to Princess for the total package. Didn't enjoy my Carnival Cruise...mostly due to the young party animals that were on board....bad timing on my part! * Hotel Info (if any)We stayed, pre-cruise, at the Embassy Suites and Casino. WE LOVED IT!!!! It is a short taxi ride to the ship and a five minute trip from the airport! Our room was fine...but what made it perfect was the pool. We spent most of the day there....and it wasn't crowded! The water temp was perfect...cool enough to refresh you but not shock. We enjoyed the free made to order breakfast each morning and the cocktail hour each evening! Having an Outback right in the hotel was also nice. There was a grocery store close by (a five minute walk) where we stocked up on water and soda...and a few snacks. The beach was also about a five minute walk with Embassy providing chairs and umbrellas. There were plenty of restaurants in the area as well as some shopping. We will book this again when we are in San Juan.We also booked one night at the Rio Mar Resort (for post cruise). Unfortunately we did not check the location of this hotel. We got it for a great price....but it is about 50 minutes from the ship. We paid a nice taxi fee to get there....but it was also amazing!!!! It is less than a mile from the entrance to El Yunque (the rain forest). It was BEAUTIFUL!!!! Two amazing pools...right on the beach....and the beds were the best of any hotel I have ever stayed at...in my entire life. Wish we had more than just one day there. It is perfect to get away, but not if you want to do anything in OSJ. * Travel To Port of Embarkation: took a cab from our hotel....we were there in 15 minutes....no problems....it does get a little backed up getting into the ship area....but that was only a couple of minutes of time....we got to the ship at 11:15. We did not get on until about 12:30....despite being the first in the preferred line. We had heard of people getting on as early as 11:45-12....so we were not that far behind! * Stateroom: L307....perfect location for us...cabin had all we needed... and our cabin steward was Mac....and he was amazing....took care of us totally....anything we asked for was handled....extra ice, towel and pillow... * Dining: We love anytime....never waited more than 5 minutes...we usually made our way to dinner between 7:30 and 8:30....but really got in quickly. We found two amazing waiters that we would recommend in the Island Dining room on deck 5...Ronald and Gloria....table 246....and Radu...table 207....Ronald was so nice and funny...loves to sing...and Radu was hysterical!!! Pick either one for fantastic service!!!! * Ship InfoWe love the Caribbean. She is beautiful. Still looks good...is very elegant in her decor and design. Easy to find your way around. We were on the Lido deck in a balcony room....L307. We like this cabin because it is close to the pool and to the burgers and pizza and the bars...when we got back from the island...we would drop our stuff off in our room and hit the pool to cool off and grab a quick bite to eat... * Activities and Entertainment:Since this cruise is so port intensive....we put most of our energy into the island activities. We did go to one art auction...We have bought a couple things that we really liked and wanted...we are not art collectors...so we are not in it for investments...which I have heard may be misleading...but I do like to go when I have a chance or if we are actually ready before dinner plans. We were not impressed with the art guy .... when my husband asked him a simple question, he was kind of rude. So...we did not attend any other auctions. We did go to both nights of the comedian. He was awesome!!! We had seen the hypnotist before and decided to give his show a miss. We enjoyed some of the games on the pool deck on the day at sea...but that was about all. We did visit the casino on the non-smoking nights....had to make our donations....glad to see Princess added another non-smoking night for those of us who do not like smoke. We attended the elite/platinum happy hours....and we also enjoyed movies under the stars.... * ServicePerfect! We were treated very well and can only say wonderful things about Princess service!!!! In fact, we talked a lot about how we felt it was some of the best service we had EVER had on any cruise!!!! Well done, Caribbean Princess! * Port & Shore ExcursionsAntigua: we booked Antigua adventures for the X-treme tour....but just before we left for the cruise...I got an email saying someone from our trip had called and that we were leaving early...and that they were afraid that we would not make it back in time. They asked me to let them know. I called Princess and nothing had changed. I wrote back and forth and decided to go for it....the last message they sent me said they would get me back by 3:30 and it was a 5-7 minute walk from where we would be dropped off to get to the ship. All aboard was 3:30....I immediately wrote and said I would have to cancel. I don't know if I will get my deposit back.....but I did not want to chance it. I still want to do this excursion because I have only heard great things about it!!!! Next time?St. Lucia: We booked Hackshaws for deep sea fishing. It was a 4 hour tour. Unfortunately for us....we didn't get anything....just a little excitement with a near "bite". The crew was okay. The one guy that should have been working the "fishing" part....spent a lot of time on the upper deck talking to the captain. They were very nice and very sorry that we didn't catch anything. I will not book this type of tour again...too much of a chance of riding around and around looking for fish....St. Thomas: We took a taxi to Red Hook...then the ferry to St. John and off to trunk bay....meet a great couple on the ferry ...spent the day with them. Beautiful beach!!!! After some snorkeling and sun ...we headed for some lunch....the Sun Dog Cafe had the best burrito that I have ever had...the burrito that ate Cruz Bay...YUMMY!!!! We also did some shopping at a great little area at by the Sun Dog...Mongoose Junction....great shops! We had read about how "dangerous" it was to do St. John....cause you might miss the boat...well we were goofing off.....missed the 3 pm ferry...so we went to a close by bar for drinks....then caught the 4 pm ferry...made it back to the ship with about 25 minutes to spare!!!!Barbados: Booked a day with Captain Ron. He was great pre-cruise with communication...he called me several times to organize our trip. Fantastic boat...snorkeling with the turtles and time at the ship wrecks....then a wonderful lunch, rum punch and frozen drinks...some relaxing swimming....then a wonderful ride back.....wonderful day!!!Tortola: Finally....the Soggy Dollar!!!! Had the best day of the whole cruise...met another couple from the ship and enjoyed their company for the rest of the cruise....we booked this trip with Tortola Charters. Despite some bad reviews....they Bill was professional and did a great job with our group! I would highly recommend him and his company!!! * Disembarkation: Went very smoothly. We had no real wait...maybe 3-5 minutes to get out of the terminal...through customs...not big deal....taxis were waiting to take us to our hotel. * Summary: We had another great cruise with Princess! We had absolutely nothing to complain about....okay...one thing....but it has to do with parents and children.....I just wish parents would watch their children around the pool and enforce the same general rules that you would at any pool....it was very dangerous....I am a lifeguard instructor and it was very difficult not to discipline other people's children .....for their own safety. I saw a young man grab another...much smaller....kid around the neck...strangling him...while throw him in....just glad their were no injuries! Parents need to do their job and babysit their own children!!!!! Princess did respond to requests to stop the kids from throwing each other in....several different times.Other than that....we had a great cruise....looking forward to our summer cruise and our future cruises with Princess!!!!
