We just returned from a spectacular cruise on board the Norwegian Epic. First I wanted to give some helpful hints to anyone who has to fly in, always check the Ft Lauderdale airport (FLL) and the Miami (MIA) airport fares. Often the FLL airport is considerably less depending on where you are coming from. If you save enough flying into FLL there are two things to consider. If flying in a day early you can rent a car at the FLL airport and drop it at the MIA airport (or reverse as well) Their are several car companies that have free shuttles to the piers in both places. Alamo, Budget, National and Hertz. At the Miami return they do not always advise you about the shuttle but if you go up to the shuttle area off to the right will be a sign stating shuttles to the pier. You have to show them your rental agreement but they are free. The second option for same day flyers or for those who can go back to airport you can catch the cruise line shuttle. The cruise line will charge a nominal fee of between 25-40 dollars each direction to be shuttled from FLL-MIA or MIA-FLL your agent or the cruiseline can advise you of the pricing currently. This time we traveled on the Norwegian Epic to the Eastern Caribbean, the ship is absolutely fantastic. There were so many venues, shows, extras for the children that you never felt crowded on a ship of 4000 passengers. We were able to see Blue Man Group twice, Second City Comedy four times, Slime Time Live, Legends in Concert and Cirque Dreams as well as the Murder Mystery each once. We met Spongebob and Dora and Patrick. Along with this premium entertainment we also saw a magician and a comedian both of which were very entertaining.Something was going on at all times on the ship. The Casino was great as they implemented an area that was non smoking and one that was smoking. It made it very pleasant for those who do not smoke to have some fun in the Casino, and did not take anything away from those who do imbibe to also enjoy. The accommodations on the ship are very chic and modern. In the cabin we were in they did fix the faucet for the sink so that you no longer hit your head everytime you wash your face or brush your teeth.I heard some passengers from Royal Caribbean and Carnival saying that they heard the cabins on NCL Epic were smaller, they are actually larger than the cabins these people were in but because of how the Epic situates their bathroom separating the shower, commode, and sink it feels smaller. In addition the balcony is definitely bigger. The televisions are flat screen and larger than several of the other cruise lines I have been on. The Flat screen also gives more room because it takes up less space. They also provide a 1600 Watt full size hair dryer not the midget ones in some hotels and other lines. The Epic does have movies to watch but they charge for each movie, they show some in the Atrium but get there early if you want to see and hear. Otherwise, the televisions in the cabin have a variety of news channels and nickelodeon but dont count on seeing your weekly shows. The Epic allows you to see the free main shows such as Blue Man Group, Second City, Legends in Concert and Nickelodeon once. However, if you look at the screens by the box office and they are not sold out you can do stand by and see them as many times as they have stand by available. This is great for Second City as those are different every time you see them. The sports court, bungee jump, spider web, plunge and water park are phenomenal for children of all ages. The childrens area is large spacious and very fun for the littlest to the biggest.Dinner is wonderful in all venues and the specialty dining areas give you a little more for your buck. The buffet served so many choices that I found something new every single day.I would recommend this ship for 1-100 + there is something for everyone.
