We just returned from a 5 day to Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman on the Carnival Destiny. Right from the beginning it was cutting corners everywhere they could to save a buck at your expense. This is a dated ship that is functional but "Spare every expense" should be the motto". We do live extravegantely, but we do value our dollar and recieved little in return on this cruise. I will review the cutbacks in sections of use.Cabins;Don't ask for a second bar of soap in an upgraded Balcony cabin, you won't get one. Hoard your soap and then use the soap dispenser in the shower.Ancient space consuming Analog Tv that has no Expense review feature on it. This means you get to stand in line at Guest Services for 1/2 an hour to see what you have billed so far. This could be part of the Entertainment package, not sure. Cheap way to get you to spend more. Shower curtain in bathroom that was too long for application and plugged drain so you could stand in 2 inches of water or constantly re-adjust it.FoodReally lame, the buffet is really just an "Old Country Buffet" with really long lines all the time. Bad layout entrees and desserts in the same line. Wait or cut in if you want a dessert. Average 1/2 hr line wait for breakfast everyday.Deli counter great idea but only one guy to make each sandwich always 10 deep in line again, time waster all the way. Sushi guy was wearing gloves but puring Sake drinks, handling glasses and ship cards, and then cutting sushi all with the same gloves. Sanitation issue is being polite here.Dinner was Denny's food with jammed in tables to get the most of one waiter and server rushing to get you out. Expect to get your food within 10 minutes of ordering, dinner lasted an hour from start ot out the door. Second cups of coffee where a dream. Finaly, no Captains dinner, just what they called dressy night, 1 night, needless to say few abided, and mostly shorts in the dining room, because nobody knew it. Wine Bar was a nice idea but the same wines at every other bar and same page from the dinner menu. The pool buffett was even worse with hotdogs and hamburgers everyday with cold french fries. Long lines here also, some Chicken Nuggets would have been better, probably kill the budget. Lunch in the dining room to avoid the lame food and lines was restricted to 1.5 hrs per day, and none at all on port days. They could have kept it open an extra hour from 11:30 till 2, but that would have cost them money.EntertainmentWith a 5 night cruise only we had a show 2 nights. The other nights were filled with two college people doing audience participation antics, like the Dating Game and "Lets bring 10 people up from the audience to see were they are from" and the then play "Pass the spoon on a rope in teams" This is stuff that costs them zero to do. Then there was passenger talent night, Please could you save any more money. The final straw was a Tina Turner concert was to be played on the big screen by the pool. Guess what? Just the video, no audio, They had a lame 3 piece band doing alternative music over the movie screen video.. Gee which should I watch?ServicesIn another cost cutting measure, they were constantly cleaning the elavators inside with a really strong vinegar solution. Nice idea for killing stuff, but an enclosed area never clears out. People would be holding their noses till they got to their floor. This was an everyday event on this ship. Probably wanted you to take the stairs to save wear and tear on the elevators. The internet worked only a fraction of the time, not just slow which is expected, but just didn't work. I asked for a partial credit of my minute package mid-cruise and refused by Guest Services because it might get better. It didn't and not functional the last 2 days. I contacted Guest services and was told to contact home office after thecruise. As expected, no refund should have used your time, well we couldn't.All in all I suggest you spend your money on another cruise line, cheap is cheap all the time. When you see the ads on TV they love to talk about the $70 a day cruise. I guess in their eyes it is all about the money....yours.
