We had a great cruise on the Jade, despite the planned port calls to Casablanca and Agadir being cancelled. We spent two nights in Barcelona prior to departure, staying at the Barcelo Raval hotel. Lovely hotel, but some "interesting" sights on the streets in the evening in the surrounding area.Embarkation was smooth - we didn't arrive at the port until 3pm, and there were no queues at all at that time. Our cabin was ready for us, and our cases arrived quickly. Lots of room for all our over-packing!We were disappointed to hear an announcement from the captain around 5.30pm to say that we would not be calling at the two ports in Morocco. The change meant an extra sea day, and a visit to Arrecife in Lanzarote. The captain came along to a meet & greet on the first sea day, and explained that he had only received information about the change of itinerary moments before his announcement, and that Lanzarote was the only option for an extra port of call. The extra sea day was pleasant and useful for unwinding and relaxing into holiday mode.We did not use any of the cruise line trips, preferring to do our own thing.Ports of Call:Arrecife - shared a taxi into the city centre and enjoyed a walk along the seafront, a tapas lunch, then back to the ship.Las Palmas, Gran Canaria: took the hop on hop off bus around the city, then back to the ship.Funchal: took a taxi to the Teleferico (cable car) and enjoyed the trip up to Monte with spectacular views over the bay. Did not have enough time to go to the Botanical Gardens - maybe next time. A late lunch, then a stroll back to the ship.Malaga: a pre-arranged trip to Granada to the Alhambra/Generalife gardens. Had an excellent guide, Daniel and a very enjoyable day despite the rain!Food & drink: we ate most evenings the Alizar restaurant which we found very good. Used the Garden Cafe one evening when we wanted a light meal, and the Blue Lagoon one evening so that we could hear the entertainment in the Atrium. Breakfasts we used the Grand Pacific mostly - my husband still pining for the Eggs Benedict. We're not big drinkers, so didn't mind the cost of the wine too much as mostly had a bottle over two evenings thanks to the efficient storage system operated. We were pleased that this time we could chose either to sit by ourselves or share a table. On the evenings we shared a table we met some great dining companions.Entertainment: was of a very high standard, with the Elements show a real highlight. The musicians were very good, and we really enjoyed the jazz session. Disembarkation: early breakfast, then we walked off with our cases and picked up a taxi to the airport. Easiest departure ever.We had a great time on the Jade, with the only negative being the cancellation of the Morocco ports - particularly as it seems only the 25 Feb departure was affected by this. However, I'd recommend the Jade & NCL as a great holiday experience.
