On this cruise was my daughter (20), son (21), wife (53) and myself (56). For me this was my 3rd cruise, the 1st with Carnival my previous cruises were on Princess. We flew from Milwaukee to Miami and then took the Carnival transfers to the dock. We purchased our plane tickets through Carnival and I will not do that again. The flights they put us on got us there just before the ship sailed, it's like we lost half a day of our cruise. Once we got to the dock everyone was very helpful and there were no lines since we were so late. Then we got on board the ship and there was no one to direct us to our room. We were so late that they were doing the muster drill and we had to go to our muster site with all our carry ons and still no one could direct us to our stateroom. We did finally find it on our own.Our stateroom 1241 was an inside room for 4 people. It was ample room for us and I didn't mind being in an inside room since we don't spend much time there except to sleep. I don't remember our room steward's name but he was very good.We had anytime dining, normally we eat around 6:00 pm so we went to the Galaxy dining room at this time and were immediately seated at the same table almost every night. Our waiter, Ozhan and his staff were exceptional. The food was very good. Around 7:15 on some nights the staff in the Galaxy do a song or dance, it really was very good and is worth seeing. We ate at the buffet (mostly breakfast) and it was typical of the food you get on buffets, if you come at the wrong time the lines will be long. Our biggest surprise was the lack of tropical fruit available on the ship. It was apples, pears, or bananas. The ship had many activities, we did several of the trivia contests. Sarah ran most of the contests and seemed to be everywhere on the ship. She made most of the contests interesting. I used the gym a few times and found it to be good sized for a ship. I also used the showers in the gym most days, since with 4 people and one shower in the room it made sense and also it is much bigger than the one in the room.I felt the entertainment on the ship was lacking. The first big show was canceled because they did a scene on a ladder and they felt that the seas were too rough. (Who plans a show on a ladder on a ship). The second big show was good but overlapped with the Comedy show so we left early. The comedians were OK. The best entertainment of the cruise was a show by Rudy Lowe. Our first port was Ocho Rios Jamaica, we did not do the ship excursions and had made reservations with Peat Taylor Tours. We did the Dunn River Falls and tubeed on the White river. Both were fun. I was very happy with Peat Taylor, there were only 2 families on the tour so it was not a big crowd. Also they got us to Dunn river falls early and we had no wait. Peat's son Repeat recommended a restaurant to us near the dock that was very good. The second port was Grand Cayman. This was a tender port, we got in line before the ship docked and were able to get on the first tender. I had booked a trip with Jet Ski Fishing and Safaris. We were supposed to Jet Ski and snorkel with sting rays and then snorkel at another spot. There were small craft warnings out in that area so Gordon offered us a chance to jet ski on the calm side of the island and snorkel there at a reduced rate or we could get our deposit back. We decided to do the jet ski and had a really fun time. It was the 4 of us and another couple with 2 guides. After we were done they dropped us off at the Royal Palms where we sat on the beach for a few hours and took a taxi ($5 ea) back to the port.We did the luggage express that Carnival offered, for $20 per person they checked our luggage with the airlines and got our boarding passes. So we put the luggage out the night before and picked it up at our final destination. I liked the program and thought it was worth the price. After docking we were off the ship and on to the airport with no problems. In summary I had a good cruise, but I felt the Princess Cruises that I have done previously were better. I am glad I researched the private excursions on the cruise critic boards and I would recommend both companies to anyone coming to these ports.
