This was the fourth cruise with Royal Caribbean, and first on Majesty of the Seas. Last summer I was on Celebrity Solstice. Having been on the Solstice, I knew this cruise probably would not meet the same experience, but I was disappointed more than I had expected to be.Preface my adventure:I was suppose to fly from Columbus, Ohio to Miami the night before to meet my sister at the airport. Due to mechanical problems my flight was cancelled. The first available flight was the next morning with plane change in Atlanta arriving at 10:30 a.m. No problem I could still catch the Holiday Inn Hotel shuttle then transfer to the Holiday Inn Port Shuttle at noon, so I thought. Snow and ice prevented take off for approximately 50 minutes. Sprinted through Atlanta and made the connecting flight and arrived in Miami about 10:30 a.m. Having never flown into Miami, locating the hotel shuttles was an adventure let alone flagging down the appropriate one. Stress level raised beyond belief. I arrived at the hotel 5 minutes before shuttle left to go the port. All is well, I am on my way and will get on board within the half hour. Nope, not going to happen, as we are traveling the downtown streets of Miami, some dude in a Lexus, runs a "red" light and hits the shuttle bus. We get to the port after 2 p.m. In a rush to slap on my room tags, I forgot to tip the porter at curbside. Mistake, one of bags did not find me until after 7 p.m. Fortunately my itinerary was in the side pocket of that bag.Check in was a breeze and was on the ship within 15 minutes. My first stop was the pool bar for a much needed cold one! I noticed the bar server immediately look at my signed receipt. Odd? No! Became the common practice. No extra tip = no service.Up to Windjammer for late lunch. Food was mediocre. Not many choices. We then explored the room, small, close to elevators, good enough for 3 nights. The cabin steward did not introduce themselves until the last night. Of course, I took that has a plea for an added tip. We had paid gratuities in advance. Other areas of the ship were nice and accommodating.Food in the MDR, just okay. We were disappointed with the limited entree choices. No bread basket on table. Drink service slow. We had the "anytime dining" Our server was one of the best crew members I encounter the entire weekend. She was very informative and remembered our names from night to night, and when she was working the Windjammer the next morning, she greeted us by our names. A touch I really appreciated.Coco Cay, I have been there before. The new additions are extremely nice.Nassau, been there, done that. We visited a few shops and walked to the Fish Fry for lunch. Cabbed back to the ship early to spend the rest of the day on the sun deck. We left port on time. Much to my surprise during dinner, we returned to Nassau due to a medical emergency. I hope the person who had to leave the ship by ambulance is now home recovering. This turn around caused us to get back to Miami 2 1/2 hours late. The ship did provide free Internet and phone service to those passengers who had to contact airlines. Nice touch. Debarking went very smooth. Most passengers carried off their suitcases, eliminating trying to find them dockside. This made going through customs very easy with no waiting lines. The things I noticed the most, employees did not make much eye contact, their lack of friendliness, quality of food was just par, entertainment in public areas nearly non existent and very boring, and pool deck music needs to be updated and not repeated so often. I heard the same Santana song at least 15 times in three days. Will I take this same cruise again, probably not. I will spend the extra bucks and go Celebrity!
