My husband and I sailed NCL dawn Feb 11- 21 2011. A few hours after boarding, I believe, It was announced ,but not in the staterooms, that there was engine problems and we wouldn't be stopping in Samana D.P.. These engine problems were known months before but they continue to sail and take peoples money. They let some individuals and possibly some travel agents know there were minor problems and that they would be arriving late in the Dom. Rep due to engine problems, never that it would be cancelled totally. Our travel agent absolutely got no info on any problems. Lying by omission.

They said there was an engineer on board and they would have it fixed by the time we arrived at what is now our first port.

We got to the other 2 islands on our itinerary, Tortola and Antigua. When sailing out of the second port, again the captain announced , not sure if all areas received this one, that we are having more engine problems and would not be going to Barbados and St. Kitts our last 2 ports on our itinerary. At first we thought it was a joke but I guess not. We would turn back towards Miami and stop at St. Maartin and St Thomas to make up for the islands missed. These island shop keepers seemed to know weeks ago that we were coming but NCL made it look like it was a instant decision because of unforeseen problems. The itinerary is not looking at all like we booked. Two out of 5 islands are as scheduled, 60% failure. We chose the itinerary strictly for the ports it had outlined and now we are not going there. Quite an expensive adventure, not to see what we paid for.
