Zuiderdam Cruise Review by molly/sheba
- Sail Date: February 2010
- Destination: Panama Canal & Central America
- Cabin Type: Neptune Deluxe Verandah Suite
Lance, your travel guide is one of the nicest gentlemen you will ever meat, and he's so handsome too! He will ALWAYS greet you with a big smile and a few words. He takes the time to talk with every person who approaches him. I feel the Zuiderdam has the BEST cruise director in the business.
The rooms are spotless, the beds and pillows are comfy and your needs are taken care of immediatly.
The entertainment was always top notch with something different every night, but get to the Vista lounge early as the theater fills up fast.

Huge balcony - tons of storage space - across from the Neptune lounge for easy access to coffee, latte, cappuccino, tea, snacks and any questions are answered from our concierge friends.
Breakfast available every morning (except when we are at ports) in the lovely Pinnacle grill restaurant.
Basket of fruit, champagne, flowers, robes and slippers. I think your room steward sneaks a peak at your shoes while cleaning on the first day as your slippers arrive the following day - and they are your size!
The deluxe suite is filled with many more amenities and worth EVERY penny extra.
Port & Shore Excursion Reviews
ArubaWe didn't venture too far, so I can't give a fair review. Lost some $$ in the casino, then just walked around the shopping area. I am sure other travels can give a more fair synopsis of the island.View All 1,635 Aruba Cruise Port Reviews

Colon (Cristobal)The Panama canal experience was fabulous. It is amazing how these large vessels and get through the narrow openings. I fixed my eyes on the trees nearby and suddenly they were going downward. We were sitting in the lock and rising, which made the trees seem as though they were sinking. You really have to see this in this way because you will not feel it happening. Of course as we went through, this reversed. We really learned a lot about the history also. As far as Colon goes, we really did not like this port. If you choose an excursion, this is the place to do it. You will be taken by tender to your excursion, then return to the ship in Colon. The shopping area you walk into from the ship is dirty, crowded and the cab/taxi drivers will hound you to take an excursion with them. They want $50.00 to take you to the mall 5 minutes away and of course, return you when you are ready. We were told not to venture out as it was dangerous. We hope that Holland America decides to remove this port stop in the future.View All 444 Colon (Cristobal) Cruise Port Reviews

CuracaoWe took the Tuktuk city tour. It's a three wheel vehicle that gets you where you want to go quickly. We ended up at the front of the swinging bridge. You must see this floating bridge. We shopped in the large store/mall area and found some really good deals. Prices are very reasonable. Wanting to watch the bridge open and close we sat at a lovely outside cafe right on the waterway (under large umbrellas)and sipped on a wonderful fruit punch while waiting for the event. A short time later the brige began to open and to see each section atop a floating pontoon bobble in the water was something we had not seen before. This capital city is very clean and colorful.View All 1,242 Curacao Cruise Port Reviews

Puerto LimonWe enjoyed Costa Rica so much. Our cab driver Hector was so sweet and as we made a couple of stops we realised that he was known by everyone there. People waived at us (or perhaps it was him) but, hey, we waived back anyway. We went into a banana field and Hector showed us a baby banana pod and told us about the process. This part of the tour was cut short by me when I spotted a HUGE spider web close by. As the song goes, "I don't like spiders and snakes". If you don't have an excursion booked, by all means hire a taxi (it's very safe) and have a tour of the area, it's wonderful. Shopping was fun, so many stores and venders. Again, we found some really great bargains.View All 342 Puerto Limon Cruise Port Reviews
