The ship is less than a year old so as you'd expect it was clean, modern looking, etc. We had a standard balcony cabin. The bed was very comfy. The size was OK, although I was expecting it to be maybe a little bigger since it was a balcony. But we didn't stay in the cabin much so not really an issue.
The food on the cruise, for the most part was great. Some of the buffet stuff was so-so but overall still a thumbs up. We never tried the non-standard restaurants (why pay extra when the food included is as good as it was?). The Manhattan Restaurant had excellent selections each night.
I've only been on one other cruise before so my comparison is just to that one. But on that previous cruise, the ship seemed a lot steadier. By that I mean, a lot less feeling of movement. Maybe the seas weren't as rough before, but on the Nieuw Amsterdam I felt the rocking while on the previous cruise, I didn't even really know I was on a ship. I think a lot of it has to do with the size of the ship. The Nieuw Amsterdam is relatively small. While that leads to more rocking, the upside is fewer people = less lines for elevators, less people in the restaurants, less people on the beach when you're in port.
Cabin Number: 1100XQuiet. Only 5 other cabins on the entire corridor. And only 6 cabins on the other side. So only 12 cabins on the entire floor (11th).However being that high up increased the rocking while at sea. The lower level cabins weren't quite as bad.Good closet space. Bathroom was OK side, I'm 6'4" and I had no trouble.
