Once we breathed a sigh of relief that we made it to the pier after a foot of snow fell in our neighborhood the night before, we were ready to soak up the warm sun that followed us throughout most of our cruise. It was fun to get away from the cold winter weather and enjoy the amenities of the Jewel, the fourth ship we've been on in Norwegian's fleet, having sailed previously on the Dawn, the Gem and the Jade.

EMBARKATION

Getting to the ship was a cause of much anxiety after the Northeast experienced its second major snow event in three weeks. Considering that our Queens neighborhood wasn't plowed for three days after the Christmas storm, there was some worry about our 40 minute drive to the pier. Our local car service (?) canceled the night before in anticipation of poor road conditions and the thought of booking a hotel room and walking to the pier, if necessary, was out of the question. Luckily, our snow blower and trusty shovels did the job, the City was plowing all night, schools were open, and we were on our way at 10 a.m. There were few cars on the road in Manhattan (a godsend) and we were at the pier by 11 a.m. The parking terminal was marginally plowed but we managed pretty easily to make it to the ship. The icy parking area was disappointing because the charge of $30 per day is pretty steep. We were enjoying our welcome buffet a little after noon. Rooms were ready by 2 p.m. and our luggage arrived pretty early. We've done the same cruise twice before on the Gem and the waters were calmer heading South this time (not too much movement and I'm pretty sensitive) but cooler outside temperatures. The last sea day had "moderate movement."

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

Great midship location. Balcony had sun in morning and shade in afternoon-very nice for a Caribbean cruise. Nice size safe and plenty of storage. A little smaller than other balcony cabins. Big bathroom, strong shower, no conditioner.
