One thing about cruising is that people get very "attached" to a certain cruise line... and when they use another one, they spend their time comparing the two. Often the new cruise line doesn't compare well to the line the reviewer is "attached" to.
I'm afraid, as much as I tried to go into this cruise with an open mind, it happened to me as well.
We chose the particular Carnival cruise that we did for many reasons. Not the least of which was that we had an extremely tight window of time. So we looked at everything that sailed during that time frame; which wasn't much. We looked at pricing. We looked at a lot of factors. In the end, this cruise won. And we were fine with that. It wasn't our "usual" cruise line, but we were ok with using Carnival.
Most spacious room we've ever had (without comparing to full-up suites). Incredible use of space for storage. Nice finishes. Comfy bed. Not super impressed with the balcony because it seemed shallow (front to back), and for us, it is all about the balcony. But we managed to spend a lot of time out there anyway. Hallway was noisy every evening because I'm pretty sure there was a large group traveling together that all had rooms near ours. So they'd congregate in the hall. But it never woke us up in the middle of the night, so that's probably all that really matters.
