I read a lot of complaints about both NCL and specifically about the Spirit before we went on the cruise. I found most of the reviews to be way off. This is the fourth cruise we had been on, having traveled on Celebrity, Carnival, and NCL before.
The ship itself is CLEARLY showing wear and tear; that said, it is also the fleet's oldest ship. The staff clearly do their best to keep public areas clean and in good condition, and they are constantly working on various areas in the ship while we are in port. I read several reviews saying that rooms were dirty, with mildew, dirt, etc...this wasn't the case at all, and our cabin stewards were fantastic.
The ports were average. Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Belize really require that you do a shore excursion to do anything other than shopping, and the majority of the locals are extremely pushy while you walk around the touristy areas of the ports. Roatan has a beautiful, new beach area called Mahogany Bay. The NCL crew try to push the shore excursions to other beaches in Honduras...no need...this beautiful beach is a ten minute walk from the boat, with hundreds of beach chairs and restaurants and bars!
Average size, obvious wear and tear to bathroom including deterioration of paint (possibly rust?) around the doorway. Balcony fine for two people!
