Sail Date: Nov 2004

This was our second cruise with Princess, the first one was on Golden Princess in 2002. We are comparing two fairly identical itineraries on 2 very similar ships (Star Princess is Golden Princess' sister ship). But the similarities stop here. While our first cruise in 2002 was nothing short of amazing, we rate Princess's last performance as pathetic, and as a result we will not travel with them again.

THE FOOD -- Aside from Sabatini's Trattoria, food and food service were a huge disappointment. Horizon (the 24-hour buffet/bistro) disappointed BOTH in terms of quality and variety of the menu items and often served the same insipid food. Steaks at the steakhouse were just OK; service in the main dinning rooms was pathetic. Apparently, friendly professional service (and a smile!) were not included on this cruise. What happened since 2002 when the food served onboard Golden Princess was outstanding?

EXCURSIONS DESK -- At the Excursions Desk, where one might expect to get information about our port-of-calls, staff were only interested in discussing Princess's own excursions. If you plan to go explore on your own, don't expect any help from these people. While we understand that these people are running a business and wish to sell as many excursions as they can, can't anyone help us with simple questions such as: "Where can we find a quiet beach?" There's all kinds of people on these ships, and they don't all want to go to the same beach. Funny how cruise lines try to cater to all, but expect all to get on the same bus.
