Oosterdam Cruise Review by danapointsteve
- Sail Date: November 2010
- Destination: Mexican Riviera
- Cabin Type: Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom
Boarding is spread out over 4 or 5 hours so it is never crowded. We boarded at about 12:30 and the process took about 15 minutes. Docked right next to us was the Carnival Splendor [dead in the water]. Later towed to SFO for major repairs. HAL allows guests to bring aboard their own wine and booze..sooo...we did. No problem...and added some from P.V. on the stop.
Mazatlan isn't much. At ship side there is a small terminal with vans and drivers for city tours..$25 per passenger. AC with water. Enjoyable with a stop at very clean restaurant right on a very clean beach near the newer hotels area. In terminal is a small tourist shopping area with a charming courtyard with music and dancing.....arriving from our tour, just before we left at about 4:30 the dance floor was crowded with the power drinkers fully loaded with Tequila. Cheap entertainment.
Next stop P. V. our favorite. Took shuttle bus $3 pp into downtown...shopped and walked along seawall..very quaint....taxi to beach just south of D.town about 10 blks.//beach front restaurants....relaxed and watched the para sailing....did that once..thank you...that's enough...then taxi back to the small creek that runs thru downtown to River Cafe..ck website....very nice lunch beside the babbling creek. Ship docks North of town...not much around there. very safe in town..
Cabo next....walked around small downtown and took water taxi to beachfront restaurants either on the sand or balconies overlooking the beach and out to the mother ship. Had to tender here...no problem.
Food on ship was better than expected. no complaints..did not use Pinnacle restaurant on board as there is a $40 charge per couple....WHAT???
Shows were really exceptional. Dancing and costumes were every bit as good as T.V. or Vegas...2 nights the illusionist [magician] entertained with exceptional shows. I mentioned that if that show had cost $100 each I would have been satisfied.
Dining..we started off with open seating...lower level..dining is on 2 levels. We were 3 couples so we decided to reserve same table each night. table 218...only table that is in middle and open to level above. Also has the spiral staircase winding down next to table. Best table on the ship. Due to Nov. cruise, window seats in rear couldn't really enjoy the view due to darkness at dinner. For lunch have a table at back and watch the wake trail the ship.
Ship had the normal activities...buffets were quite adequate...oh, room service was excellent.....the only morning they were late was the morning that I forgot to set my watch back, so 7 was really 6.Just complained for an hour...went to buffet...called the room and was told how nice the service was and how dumb I am.
Very nice cruise...leaving the ship ran very smoothly...quicker than times assigned...be ready to roll.
