Carnival Freedom Review

Sail Date: November 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
Here's the review for our 6 night cruise on the Freedom 11/14/10. We have cruised on Royal Caribbean 7 times and Carnival 3 times. DW and I drove down from Kentucky and stayed at the Days Inn, Oakland Park, the day prior to the cruise. Motel charged $67 (plus tax), about $75 total. The motel does not have a free shuttle, but has an arrangement with KSA tours to transport cruise guests for $25.00 round trip for two to the cruise port. They charge $5.00 per day for parking. So, room, transportation and parking was about $135.00. The motel is not fancy, but adequate, and we found our room clean and comfortable. Parking at the port would have been about $100, so I think we arranged a good value at the Days Inn Oakland Park. The motel does offer guests a nice pool area that we enjoyed and shopping is nearby. Overall we were pleased with our stay.

Embarkation was easy, we arrived about noon and it took about thirty minutes to be processed and on board. We found the Lido buffet very More busy, but not overly crowded and enjoyed lunch. Overall food on the Lido is varied and plentiful. We thought the hamburger and pizza stations were very good and also enjoyed the 24 hour ice cream often.

Cabins were ready at 1:30. We booked last minute, an inside cabin near the back of the ship on deck eight, which was where we changed and headed up one deck to the pool deck. Nice sail away party, great music and dancing...electric slide, cupid shuffle, etc. Bags delivered by 5:00, with a 12 pack of Bud Light and Rum runners safely aboard!

Dining was enjoyable in the Posh dining room, with good service and good selections. We don't expect gourmet dining, but dinners for the most part met or exceeded our expectations. We didn't go to the steakhouse and went to the Lido once for dinner. It was nice to have dinner in a more casual setting and we enjoyed the dinner selections in the Lido.

On board we really had fun with Sixx Carter and and Karioke Live! It's a chance to enjoy performing with a live band, who by the way, were fun and very talented musicians. Most of the cruisers who performed were great singers. Folks can dance on the dance's a great karioke experience!! Piano bar, Lobby, Prominade, Habana Bar and pool deck for the most part were great musicians..we enjoyed the music a lot. Comedians were ok, we didn't see any shows. Since we had been to Key West and Caymans before, and decided to take advantage of great weather on ship. The Serenity is on the front of the ship and offers great views of ports while relaxing on cushioned, umbrella lounge chairs. In Ocho Rios we took a bus to Mahogany Beach...very small beaches in Ocho, we got there early, it got crowded later, had a friendly waiter who catered to our every need. The waiter hooked us up with some local ganja, which we enjoyed in the VIP lagoon...a small, private area just away from the crowd. No problem, mon. It worked out great for us, but proceed with caution.

Overall a great cruise as we were blessed with great weather, beautiful ports of call and wonderful people... both staff and fellow cruisers. We can't wait to do it again! Less
