We are in our 60's and this is our review of our century cruise that left Barcelona Oct 13th, 2010. This was our first cruise with Celebrity. We had cruised four times with Carnival, so were looking for a different experience. This was also our first time to go to the Mediterranean. We picked this particular cruise because of the itinerary and the dates.
W e left St Louis and flew AA to Chicago and then Iberia to Madrid and then Barcelona (we had almost no problems with Iberia). The service was very good and we really enjoyed the food. What I didn't enjoy was being frisked in Madrid. I wear a ring watch and forgot to take it off before going through the detector. (So it was my own fault). We took the Aerobus to Plaza Catalunya with no problems and walked a short distance to our hotel. We arrived at the Hotel Continental, around noon and we were able to get a room. We had a snack from the buffet, it was okay. They did have plenty of things to choose from and I saw them refill things very often. I did enjoy having a mimosa with breakfast. DH did not care for the beer though. The room was pink and very small, but we had plenty of space as we were only staying one night and the location was great.
We enjoyed this first day and walked La Rambla and bought a few things. We also walked through the big department store El Corte Ingles and a supermarket type store. The next day we walked around Plaza Catalunya and a few stores in that area, we then went thru the Mercat. Awesome! There was so much fresh food; bakeries, fruits, vegetables, meats and fish. We returned to our hotel to pick up our bags and headed for the ship.
