Sail Date: Oct 2010

It was a great trip - weather was ideal as we followed Hurricane Richard from place to place, but always 2 days behind the storm. Roatan had no bad effects, Belize had some damage mostly along the water to piers and shoreline (and inland rural areas too so I heard). Costa Maya was fine.

We had originally booked an inside room, but moved to a balcony and then to a mini-suite as prices came down to what we could afford with the date of the cruise getting closer. Then at the last minute, our travel agent told us that there was a suite available, and I paid the difference hoping to surprise my wife - who showed up just as I was paying for the upgrade. Oh well, no surprise, but a fine cabin and experience anyway. The aft view must truly be outstanding in Alaska (but on this trip there was not much to look at but open ocean).

- I'll start with the ship - The Pearl is a beauty. I'll give it 9 out of 10

Pros: Great in size for 2 people (in room and on balcony). Plenty of storage space. Awesome views. Quiet area of the ship (other than the white noise of the water). Several electrical outlets handy around room.

Cons: At least an 8 minute round trip walk from the Spinnaker lounge if you forget something. And 'stuff' does get washed and blown down onto the balcony from the Great Outdoors two decks above. Could hear the bass from the Bliss Lounge at times.
