We just returned from our third Celebrity cruise. It was the first time of the Celebrity and we could not have been more pleased. The ship was spotless and the service excellent. The Captain made himself present all over the ship and was very affable. We choose inside staterooms for the bargain, opting to spend our extra money on shore excursions. The itinerary was what attracted us to this particular cruise and we were not disappointed. We started off in Barcelona. We had, on our own, arranged to arrive a few days ahead of time. This gave us the option to see the magnificent city of Barcelona. I highly recommend doing this if possible. Barcelona is a very easy town to get around in and we chose to walk everywhere possible. I had pre-registered for the check-in on the ship and it was the fastest and most efficient check-in we have experienced. We asked, as always, for an upgrade but were told the ship was full and none was available. By the empty dining tables, I have my doubts about this. Our room was ample and with great storage. The cruise took us to Nice/Villefranche, France; Florence/Livorno, Italy; Rome/Citivecchia, Italy, Messina, Sicily; Mykonos, Greece; Kusadasi/Ephesus, Turkey; Athens, Greece; Salerno, Italy and back to Barcelona. We were surprised at the cost of the Shore Excursions as were several of the veteran travelers we met on the ship. The excursions themselves were good with the exception of the one in Salerno to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. We had the tour director from you-know-where and a frightening bus driver. Many of us complained to Celebrity and were graciously refunded half of the costly shore excursion price. There were on-board activities that were the standard fare. The entertainment left a lot to be desired. The food was average to above average. In looking back I cannot think of anything I would rave about. Customer service was excellent. The lounge entertainment was far better that the stage group. The cost of the soft drink package was very steep and not a value. We did not use the spa or the gym but both are available. There was one port, Villefranche/Nice, where we had to use tenders. It was a tedious process and a long wait for one on the return trip. All in all, for me, the sites that I saw and the beauty of the areas was the highlight of the trip. What a magnificent area to visit and I now know area that I would like to come back to for a prolonged stay. We enjoyed our cruise with the Century and will look for future sailings of this ship. It is not one the horrid mega-boats they are putting out there now. Great trip, fabulous time!
