I love the NCL line. This was my 5th trip with them. The Jewel is a great ship. I only had two complaints and one was taken care of immediately. The ship is 5 years old and must have the original mattresses on board. The 3rd day I left a note for housekeeping and that night when we returned, they had put a board under the bed and that made a world of difference.
My biggest disappointment was the Japanese hibachi restaurant. We had 6:30pm reservations. As soon as we were seated the waitress came over, put a menu in my hands and didn't give me a chance to look it over. She said pick now and also your dessert. The restaurant was like night and day compared to the DAWN. The cook put on a show which was the worst I have ever seen. He kept dropping the eggs and breaking them. He finally gave up . I ordered the lobster tail, scallops and calamari. The lobster tail was dry and inedible. The food was thrown at us so fast and they kept pushing you to finish to get ready for the next reservations. I was shocked to see the grill was not cleaned from the previous group of people. This place is very dangerous. The floor was so slippery because of the abundant amount of grease that has settled on it from cooking.
I had my cane with me and half way out of the restaurant it slid out and I almost fell. Everybody complained that it was like walking on ice.
Good size cabin with balcony. 3 rooms away from elevator and didn't hear a peep. Coming home, the water was rough and the hangers in the closet were knocking into each other. My husband tied the belt from the robes in the closet to the hangers to stop the noise. No one told us that if you have a room next to your friends, the balcony opens so you can all sit together without going into the hallway. Leaving the gangway we saw the doors open. I like to watch TV at night to fall a sleep and I must have seen the same shows a dozen times. The news was current but the TV shows were all recorded. I lost count of how many times I watched Malcolm in the middle.
