We (DD age 24 and I) flew into Seattle the day prior to our cruise. We learned some time ago to arrive at least a day prior to embarkation whenever possible. We stayed at the Homewood Suites on Western Avenue. We could not have been more pleased with this facility. It is located in a residential neighborhood, was quite comfortable, and all staff we met were welcoming and helpful. It would be especially comfy for a longer stay with the complete kitchen. In 15-20 minutes we were able to walk to Pike Place Market or the Space Needle. We took a shuttle to the pier (5 minute drive)for which we signed up at the hotel at check in. Our bags were taken at the curb and we were able to directly walk on to the ship. We were on board by 11:45 after taking the 11:30 shuttle! By 1:00 Pm we were able to get into staterooms. Our family balcony (8181) was very spacious. Storage was the best we have had in any state room category. (Do keep in mind the room is designed for 5 people and there were only 2 of us. We both are chronic over packers so we each take up the storage space of 2 people however!!!)The balcony is reason enough to book this cabin category. It was absolutely amazing. When we traversed the Tracy Arm Fjiord we had about a 160 degree view from the port stern of the ship-just incredible. This was the highlight of our trip. We even saw the Sawyer Glacier calving.Part of the balcony is covered so when it was rainy or windy we still had shelter. We ate breakfast there almost every morning. The Infinity is ready to be refurbished but I actually preferred it in many ways to Solstice class vessels. I was quite surprised by that. While needing updates those are just cosmetic. Our cabin was immaculately clean as were the public areas. New carpet, upholstery and TVs next year will really help Infinity shine.I will be back aboard before those take place and I know I will be happy to be there.I was happy with the food in the MDR and the buffet. We only went to a few of the evening shows.Entertainment is one of few areas where Celebrity drops the ball. The production numbers are high energy. Whatever some performers may lack in talent or finesse is certainly made up for with heart. The comedian was a pleasant "G" rated performer but he was a good 10 minutes into his act before he impersonated anyone who was even still alive (I kid you not). In Vegas in the 1960s he was probably super. That being said at 52 I was among the younger people on this cruise. Many in the audience adored the guy.I enjoyed On Tap, the acapella act. They are a bit like N'Synch . We saw them 3 times. For us the most entertaining performer was actually Brent Nixon, the on board naturalist. He was informative and engaging. We saw every one of his talks and continue to quote him. This is the teacher every adult wishes he'd had in school. If you see nothing else see his Seals and Sea lions talk! WOW! Thanks to him we spotted orca and humpback whales right from that great balcony. In regard to shore excursions: in Ketchikan we took a floatplane to see the salmon run. We spotted no bears or other wildlife except the salmon but still recommend this. In Juneau we went whale watching and had great success. We saw several whales and seals and sea lions. We also visited the Mendenhall glacier, a truly lovely place. Our favorite port was Skagway. We took the White Pass Railway excursion. Both scenery and wild life viewing were spectacular. From the bus we spotted mountain goats and a bear! Our driver ,Alex, went above and beyond.the suspension bridge in the Yukon may be the prettiest place I've seen any where on the planet. This excursion included a stop to pan for gold. While as "touristy" as it gets we loved the experience and were so nicely treated there. Thanks to Slim Pickens for helping me safely secure my gold flakes. In Victoria we did a night time excursion to Buchart Gardens. I'm sorry we were not able to see everything in low light conditions. This would be very romantic if you were there with your sweetie. Disembarkation, along with Celebrity transport to the airport was smooth. We enjoyed meeting other CCers. Thanks to Jen for setting up our cabin crawl. We loved meeting Kay,May,Maud,Kathy, and Kim each night at dinner and sitting with Alicia and Dustin at the cocktail party. Alaska really has something for every one and Celebrity makes each person feel special!
