This was my wife and I's first cruise on Virgin Voyages. We were pretty excited at the idea of a cruise with no kids! We've been on many of the major cruise lines, Royal, Carnival, Princess, Norwegian and Holland America. We arrived at the terminal early having driven 4 hours to get there. We couldn't get on early unfortunately but no big deal. Once we did get on the ship we were able to go straight to our room and get settled in. We received our luggage, changed real quick and headed out for a drink and to explore. We immediately noticed the club type vibe which was a little surprising since it's Virgin and the amount of talent on their label is crazy. Let's start there. The music on the ship is repetitive and boring. Constant boom boom boom boom, what happened to some variety? The only place we heard some decent tunes was in the tattoo parlor! More on that later. We had reservations that first night at Pink Agave. Looking forward to some good Mexican food we headed on down. I'll just cut to the chase, my wife ordered pretty much the only thing she could, Chili Relleno. There was no spice meter or anything on the menu so you would not expect the food to burn your mouth off. I like spicy food and that pepper was so hot it was not edible. My wife told the waiter and he just smiled and went on about his business. I gave her my dinner so she could sooth her mouth and we got some other snacks elsewhere that night. Unfortunately this was a theme. They tell you to let ship services know if you have food allergies. My wife is deathly allergic to wheat, not all gluten but wheat. We just say gluten free to keep it simple. Ship services told us to let the restaurant know. Which is it? We did that and guess what? The options were just crappy at best. The only thing food wise on this cruise we enjoyed was the ice cream and the pizza just beyond the ice cream stand. The food was awful, even without an allergy. It was pathetic. Before you say well they must be upset at no buffet. Nope. We don't ever eat at them, we don't like them. We don't eat enough to enjoy a buffet. The portions and flavor on this Virgin voyage though was so bad it was frustrating. Even at the Bimini Beach club the food was awful. If you are going for food, don't. Next, service. The staff on this ship seem miserable if you ask me. They don't smile, they don't say hello, heck sometimes they are hard to find. I've never been on a cruise ship like that. They are always smiling and saying hi and ready to have a chat if you so choose. Not these people. They just seemed annoyed. The ONLY crew that rocked it on that ship was the Squid Ink crew. My wife got a tattoo for her birthday and those people were awesome. Kudos to Squid Ink. That's an awesome experience. Unfortunately, that's it for awesome. This ship is BORING. I cannot tell you how many people were just sitting around looking tired and bored. I've never seen anything like it on a cruise. We kept hearing people complain that there is nothing to do and they are right. This cruise was significantly over priced and we would NEVER go on a Virgin cruise again. No thank you.
This port is a joke. DO NOT RENT A GOLF CART! The cruise line should be looking out for it's guests. The golf carts are a scam. You don't need it. Save the $80. Beyond that the area sucks. The beach club is ok but if you wanted to go sight seeing, stay on the ship.
