August 7 - 14 Cruise on Caribbean Princess New England and Canada
We are a family of 11 from Southern California, my husband and I, our daughter and son and their families. We flew in to JFK airport several days before sailing and stayed at the Manhattan Times Square hotel. This hotel is rather basic, but is ideally situated on 7th Avenue and 52nd St. We were able to purchase tickets for the hop- on hop- off tour bus from the concierge Their route covered most of the famed N.Y. attractions and the bus stop was only a block away. The cost for a 24- hour pass was $44 and $34 for children. One block over on Broadway we found the Stardust Diner where all of the servers were aspiring actors and singers who entertain throughout breakfast The hotel also was in walking distance of the Broadway Theater and we enjoyed seeing the delightfully funny "Promises, Promises" using tickets purchased over the internet.. New York was a fun experience for all of us even though the weather was hot and humid.
On Saturday, we called Dial 7 car service at 10:30 a.m. and reached the Red Hook terminal in about 40 minutes. These cars were much nicer than the N.Y. cabs. There was a flat charge of $38.00 plus tolls and tip for four passengers. Our driver took us via the Battery tunnel and this route offers a great view of Ground Zero.
The room was adequate, good closet space, hallway was quiet. and the balcony was large enough for the two of us in the cabin. There was occasional noise from the exercise rooms above. Our stewardess was not as cordial as others we have had on other ships, but the room was always clean and tidy. Our view was excellent and we enjoyed going to the observation area at the front of Lido deck during sailaways for a fuller view of the scenery.
