The Basics: Drove to N.Y.C. from Philadelphia and parked in the long-term lot adjacent to the Jewel. Embarkation was simple and quick. We went to Tsar's for lunch. Took a quick look around the ship and our cabin was ready!!!

Our Cabin: We booked a Mini-Suite for the three of us (2 adults and 10 y/o child). Our room was immaculate and perfectly appointed. The bathroom is very functional, the water pressure in the shower was super strong and the toilet is separated from the bath and sink. The bed was extra cozy, and with the movement of the ship lead to a perfect nights sleep every evening. Our son's sofa-bed was made extremely comfortable. Our cabin stewards (Charlie and Sarah) made us towel animals every night at turndown (gorilla hanging from ceiling, cobra, mouse, swans, elephant etc.) Charlie and Sarah were so personable and every time you needed anything they magically appeared. In any 5 star hotel, we never received any attention close to what they provided to us. Thinking about them now makes us miss them dearly. If you have a child, request extra padding for the sofa bed and they will make the bed with an additional foam mattress. The television received a variety of free movies every 2-3 hours which were all recent releases as well as news channels and sports. Our room had a balcony which was exceptionally large with two deck chairs and a side table. The balcony is a must, if you like to read, relax and unwind after a long day in the sun or after a tiring excursion. Finally, there is an in room safe for your valuables. To compare, we have traveled with Royal Caribbean and Carnival, and have found the NCL cabins to be the best appointed when comparing decoration, cleanliness and comfort. (This was our 6 cruise).

Freestyle Dining: This is a great concept and definitely makes NCL stand out from the other lines. No dining times and you only have to dine with whom you want.
