Windstar was our go-to cruise line. When we first began taking cruises with Windstar, it was five star – the people, the food, the service, the beverages, etc. It is no longer five-star quality. Most of the crew are still the best. However, the level of quality information regarding the ports and excursions is not as detailed as it once was. The entertainment has been a mix of very good to very bad. On one cruise, one half of the duo could not carry a tune. We have had entertainment and engagement managers that have been wonderful. We have had entertainment and engagement managers who have been lousy. One made us feel as though we were on a singles cruise with the crude humor of a sexual nature. Another scheduled only musical trivia games since that was one of her primary areas of interest. Many guests enjoyed these trivia matches, but if you were not a music buff, you were left out of these opportunities to connect with your fellow passengers. Also, you never know if you will have lectures on board. We recently took a cruise that included Greece and Türkiye, two areas rich in history and culture. While this was a prime opportunity for lectures, there was only one as we passed through the Dardenelles. Regarding the food, the quality has dropped. We took three cruises of various lengths in less than a year. We were in vastly different areas of the world and yet, much of the food was redundant on all three cruises. The food at breakfast is the same every morning. You can mix it up by having a different egg or omelet preparation but that is it. The food at lunch and dinner was repetitive between all three cruises. There were a few different things that would be offered but only a few. Also, they seem to be focused on increasing their plant-based offerings. We tried several of those dishes and none of them tasted good. In fact, the veggie burger was good but now that it is entirely plant-based, it is inedible. We tried the coffee and the specialty coffees but not of it was particularly good. On their Star boats, the rooms have a sitting area and a sleeping area. Previously, there was a solid curtain which could be drawn between the two areas. This would allow for someone to sit up in a lighted area without disturbing someone who was sleeping. For some reason, the solid curtains have been removed and now there is only a partial sheer curtain which is useless. Windstar is adding two new ships in the next one to two years. We can only hope that in addition to new ships, they return to their former five-star level of service.
