This was a two-week transatlantic from FLL to Rotterdam. Modern ship, relatively small (2,500) and nicely maintained. Food in the main dining room was excellent—many and varied choices, high quality and nicely presented. No real need to do the specialty restaurants, but we tried the Tamarind which serves wonderful Asian dishes in a lovely room with sea view; and the Pinnacle, an overrated steak and chop house that we wouldn’t do again. The luncheon buffet was good, but not exceptional although the service was very good. And there’s the Dutch Cafe that offers unique, small dishes, desserts, coffees and Belgian beers—again, very good service.

Our balcony cabin was very good and nicely maintained by two cabin stewards.

The two flaws: entertainment and very slow drink service in the small, crowded, cocktail lounges. The ship features the BB King and Rolling Stone lounges which feature good, but repetitious music (be prepared for very loud); the theatre performances are mediocre and repetitious with one or two exceptions, including a great British band playing golden oldies with a real flair; there is no live, soft music in the cocktail lounges—only blaring recorded music. Last, but not least, no enrichment program or real daytime entertainment—which is unacceptable on a cruise with many sea days. One very good aspect of the musical entertainment was a tireless and exceptional entertainer in the piano bar, who could play virtually any song and brought good cheer to the audience.
