Our second mini cruise with P&O spending some non-refundable credits. Together with ROL, our preferred agents, we'd worked out how to best spend our credits and on this one we were able to book the Mayflower suite on B deck. Our first suite on a P&O ship although we'd regularly sailed with Fred Olsen in their Premier Suites. We were on a three night hop over to Zeebrugge near the lovely town of Bruges in Belgium although, in the event, the very wet day dissuaded us for travelling there sadly. We had been warned that boarding was delayed 90 minutes owning to the need to deep-clean the ship after outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on the two previous cruises but, in the event, all went smoothly.

We were booked into first sitting in the Alexandria restaurant on a table for 8 that turned out to be a 6 in the event. We dined with some lovely folk and thoroughly enjoyed the meals and the company our two fine waiters, Jose and Jhed. One odd feature we hadn't seen before was the appearance of optional extra charge items on the main restaurant menu - the thin end of the wedge? On boarding we had a really good sit down meal in the Alexandria as suite guests and ate with two other couples who had both done two back-to-backs already prior to this cruise - but who'd never met each other!

Our suite came with the services of a butler, Colin, who was a very accomplished gentleman and who anticipated and met our few needs in a very professional manner. Our Stewardess, Catherine, was a lovely young lady who'd never worked in suites before and who had only just joined the ship with us after a two day journey from her home in the Philippines. She did really well despite no doubt being exhausted.
