Just got back from a ten night cruise aboard the NCL Viva around the Mediterranean and I have to say we loved it all. The ship is great, the ports were wonderful and the staff, as always, was spectacular. Love the fact that it's brand new with modern style.

Some quick thoughts:

*While the ship is big, it didn't seem crowded. Yes, there are thousands of people on board, but they seem to spread out nicely.

Port Reviews

Argostoli (Kefalonia)

I didn't really know what to expect about Argostoli. Unlike so many places around the Mediterranean, it doesn't have ancient buildings. However, it's beautiful with stunning coastline and scenery. We took a five our private tour that included a winery stop and had a great time.

We enjoyed walking around the old section of Corfu and shopping. We didn't do any excursions this day and just wanted a relaxing time.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful place. We took a 3 hour tuktuk tour and enjoyed it all. The old city is amazing, but it's also exceptionally crowded. We were there in May and I can't imagine how packed it must be in the summer.

Florence (Livorno)

While most of the passengers on our ship went to Florence or Pisa, we headed up to Cinque Terre and loved it. We had a small group tour with just 7 of us in a minivan. Loved the little towns and the amazing scenery of the area.

We didn't see much of Koper because we went to the Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle Tour. Loved every minute of it. I love seeing caves, and the Postojna underground is amazing.

Malta (Valletta)

We visited an old temple from 3,000 BC and the historic fort. My only recommendation is to skip the hop-on/hop-off bus. It only comes every hour so you're stuck if you want to move along. We finally just started ubering our way around.

We didn't spend much time in Naples because we visited Pompeii and Sorrento. Loved them both. Pompeii is packed with tourists, but it's such an amazing place to visit.

Split was probably our most pleasant surprise. We really enjoyed the touring the Diocletian palace.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

What can you say about Rome but wow. You could spend a month there and not visit it all. We took a three hour tuktuk tour that was spectacular. Yes, it's packed with tourists, but there is so much to see that you can avoid the big crowds and still see amazing sights.
