The Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona would have been much better if it had simply been advertised as a ferry service on ship that looked like a cruise ship. It was exactly what you might expect from a ferry boat, noisy, somewhat dirty, disorganized, and staff that certainly acted as if they just couldn’t wait for the whole awful event to be over. And, the constant noise of overhead speakers everyday for an hour as passengers embarking at each port had to go through the safety regulations. No room or space was spared the blaring overhead announcements. There were shortages of everything from hand soap to toilet paper. ( at one point, it took 2 days for our room) There was no consistency as to the timing of basic room service because there was constantly revolving group of passengers, so, at any time returning to the room was a gamble on who might be there. Plus, there were always shortages for basic such as coffee and ice water in the cafe with dispensers broken or empty. There wasn’t one day where everything was working. Staff worked hard but there were never enough people to clean the tables or the floors. The eating areas were unsanitary. It really just seemed like any ferry boat on a busy route. The main feeling was sympathy for the people who worked on board because they seemed so miserable with the shortages and inefficiencies. We felt a little like hostages, to the point we did look into just getting off and working our way back to Barcelona by train. In the end, we chose not to miss Marseilles, which made the trip worthwhile.
