Holland America Oosterdam 31 night cruise: March 5 to April 5, 2024. This cruise was advertised as including a day of "Scenic Cruising Cape Horn". We made our final payment on Feb. 2. Then, on Feb. 5, we were notified that the ship would NOT be doing the Cape Horn cruise! "For operational reasons". As it turned out, the schedule produced by Holland America is not doable. The Captain told us that. Curiously, the schedule for the same cruise next March shows the same "Cape Horn Cruising" on the same day next year... March 14. It'll be interesting to see when that cruise gets changed. Maybe, as with ours, after final payments have been made. So much for that item on our bucket list! Thanks a lot, Holland America!

By about the middle of March, many passengers, including both of us, were coughing... a lot! We heard that some went to the ship's doctor for help; some were charged about $100. plus prescription cost, and some were charged about $400. plus. No logic to this, when it was regarding the same ailment. Most people we spoke to just persevered... with slight fevers and a lot of coughing. So much so that it made it difficult to sleep.

The main theatre has enough seats for only about half of the passengers. When port talks were given, many people could not attend. Ed, the "Cruise Director", said that they were not allowed to stream the talks to tv sets in cabins. That would have solved the problem, but no, it wasn't allowed!
