Sail Date: Mar 2024

This was our 5th P&O cruise and the 1st time on IONA. We travelled as a party of three, two adults and a teenager. This was also the largest number of fellow guest passengers we have ever sailed with circa 5.5k. The ship was full. Boarding that many passengers is always going to be a challenge, which was the case, slightly longer than normal with the process taking around 90 mins from parking the car with CPS to boarding the ship. The ship is good shape and what appears to be very well maintained. The reduction in cabin steward hours was telling. Having a 13 year old using the bed sofa and this not being changed back to a normal sofa really isn't practical or well thought out by P&O, with clear signage not for the passengers to attempt themselves. Our balcony cabin was at the front of the ship on deck 14, directly below the bridge. This was novel for us and although the weather was terrible it was a different experience venturing onto the balcony. Big negatives was having to queue for the restaurants with no set time being offered, not being able to access the theater at the time we wanted to go to the show as you have to book on the app which is ridiculous and not for everyone so people miss out. Also the specialty restaurants we visited, Sindu, Epicurean, the glass house and the beach house weren't up to the usual standards. Positives include the acrobatic shows in the Skydome and the inclusion of the Quays. The pub Brodies was also very large and always had something going on. The ships entertainment was good but seemed to lack an Entertainments Director. All in all the ship experience was slightly better than average but the weather and the ports made for an average cruise.

Brugge (Bruges)

Nice place - took the train and walked into Bruge

Took a tour, really shouldn't have, they took us to Easter Mass without warning.
