After a disappointing experience with a ship of 3900 passengers last summer, we (4 family members) went back to Viking River Cruises for a relaxing vacation in the Netherlands and Belgium which was even more interesting than expected. We did the pre cruise extension in Amsterdam, before the cruise, in a well-located hotel and visited the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank house on her own (be sure to get tickets online before the trip). We also had a great introductory tour of Amsterdam with a Viking guide. A van took us to the port for embarkation which was easy and smooth. The service during the entire trip was great and the food was excellent. We went on excursions in every port, including some of the optional ones. The Keukenhof Gardens and Tulip Festival was the highlight, but all the stops were enjoyable and enlightening. We picked the French balcony cabin to save on costs and because we expected little time on the balcony, given the season. The room was well appointed but small, which could be a problem for some, but wasn't for us. We used Viking Air services, which I highly recommend, and so had transportation back to the airport after disembarkation.

Port Reviews

Amsterdam

The Van Gogh museum was very interesting and the Anne Frank house moving and emotional. These tickets you have to get online, the Anne Frank house 6 weeks before. We loved walking around Amsterdam and enjoyed the canal cruise, a visit to the Delft factory and the Keukenhof Gardens.

Kinderdijk

We enjoyed seeing the windmills, visiting inside one, learning about they are used.
