Executive Summary. (If you are not an executive, skip this paragraph.) The itinerary was "In Search of the Northern Lights." We saw the Lights four times over three nights, so in a sense this was a successful cruise. However, although Viking does many things well, they failed in one very important component - they did not meet the expectations of my taste buds! The menus were good, but the execution was often bad. I found their cruisine * to be Repetitive, Unimaginative, and Boring. Aye, there's the RUB. So I would not book with Viking Ocean again. I consider VO to be a premium cruise line, as opposed to a luxury one, and I'd rather sail ten nights on a luxury line than twelve nights on VO, which by my calculations costs roughly the same.

Now, let's get specifical! I'm going to present this in a somewhat chronological order.

Embarkation (Tilbury). Excellent, quick and painless.
