We went in search of the Northern Lights, which we saw briefly, but discovered so many magical worlds. Before embarking on a Northern Lights cruise you need to understand the reality of searching for the Northern Lights (it’s not like social media would lead you to believe) and adjust your expectations. Still, the hunt is exciting and completely worth it. You’d be hard pressed to do better than Viking Ocean Cruises. While veteran cruisers, this was our first time on Viking. We were completely won over. Their organization, responsiveness and high quality of service are unparalleled. We love the understated nature, but high quality of their Scandinavian decor, along with the organization of their ships. Everything feels very roomy (we were in a veranda stateroom), especially the stateroom’s bathroom. We love that there are high quality libraries in almost every area of the ship. The food and wine selections were wonderful. Shore excursions were so well organized, and the guides all quite knowledgeable. Their enrichment programs are top notch. Don’t expect glitzy entertainment options, but there is lots of music, and it is of the highest quality. Nothing, embarkation/disembarkation, muster drills, shore excursions, etc., ever seemed chaotic. They dealt with glitches, whether weather related or otherwise, immediately and satisfactorily. We can’t wait for our next cruise with Viking.
