Before commenting on the cruise, a bit of advice. If you have booked a cabin and you are happy with the location, the favoured being midships, be careful to tick the no upgrade box. Why wouldn’t you want an upgrade? Two reasons, it isn’t an upgrade in reality, you are just moved, without your agreement, to an identical cabin on a higher deck. The sting in the tail is that it is likely to be to one of the harder to sell locations, such as the extreme ends of the ship. This frees up the cabin you have vacated for Ambassador to sell more easily.

The cruise ship - a couple of adverse comments, on Ambition unless you are in one of the suites there is no fridge, an annoyance for some and a real problem for people with certain medication. The bathroom is too small, the toilet being squeezed in, and I mean really squeezed in between the shower cubicle and the handbasin. Some people may find it virtually impossible to use. With a couple of exceptions I would say the Ambition is slightly better than Ambience, a bit newer and a better layout. The exceptions are no observance bar and some lifts don’t go to all floors.

Embarkation is the simplest of the lot. You print your luggage labels and boarding card in advance. A problem if you don’t have a printer. The car park is directly across the road, into the terminal, pass security, have a photo taken and you are on the ship. Security can be a bit slow because it seems nobody takes any notice of the embarkation time. It was the same with disembarkation. Although not to be last off we tried our luck 30 minutes early. Judging by the fact that the baggage hall was empty, as was the car park, I guess you leave when you want to.
