We chose a Viking river cruise for our first ever cruise based upon research and reviews, and we were not disappointed. From the moment we stepped onto the Alruna, we were made to feel at home. From our room steward, to all the wait and lounge staff, we were very spoiled. The cruise director was definitely an “energizer bunny” who was always helpful and on top of things. We absolutely felt as if the staff loved their jobs.

Friends “warned” us not to purchase the Silver Spirits Package, but we did anyway, and we were very glad we did. While the “house wines” were very good, we absolutely enjoyed trying many other wines, spirits and cocktails that we did not have to worry about paying for at the end of our cruise. Not to mention, yes, we saved money by spending money on this package.

While we took most of the included shore excursions, we also purchased a few. We recommend that anyone considering a cruise seriously check out all available shore excursions. We enjoyed the additional shore excursions we took, as well as enjoyed free time to explore on our own.

Veranda Suite

We had a Veranda Suite. All three parts of this suite were roomy, and there was lots of storage space. There were plenty of outlets for all of our many needs. We loved that our suite included a mini fridge that was replenished daily and laundry services. Every evening, we came back to a bed turn down and notification of the next days activities (The Viking Daily), along with all tickets for our next days shore excursions.
