Northern lights

Booked this cruise over a year ago to go in search of the northern lights. Relocation cruise prior to ours was cancelled due to an outbreak of gastrointestinal cases. This meant some hygiene restrictions were still in place for first few days. This did lead to some inconvenience and slow service. Some toilets were closed. After three days the restrictions were lifted and everything got back to Fred Olsen usual excellent level. Our first cabin was a bit noisy but guest services moved us to another cabin of same grade without fuss and problem was resolved. Staff were all excellent, particularly impressed with the guest speaker Martin Whipp from go stargazing, knowledgeable and helpful.

Entertainment was first class, both from the Fred olsen singers but we particularly enjoyed both shows from the guest sing Bruce Anderson. He is a talented performer who produced two outstanding performances.

Due to stormy weather, we had to miss the scheduled stop in Bodo, which was a shame, but we did get to visit the black glacier instead, which was stunning. Sunny clear days in Narvik, Tromso and Alesund followed and we were lucky enough to see stunning displays of the northern lights on each night. Definitely the highlight of the cruise and a real bucket list experience.

Cabin Review

Superior Inside

First cabin was noisy, could clearly hear other guests talking on both sides, their televisions and wardrobe doors opening and closing. It was otherwise clean and comfortable. Guest services gave us another cabin of same grade without any fuss which resolved the problem.
