Cabin: Royal Suite

Having taken over 35 Celebrity Cruises, we love the brand. That's so true that we splurged for a Royal Suite. Don't make that mistake. The extra large balcony, which should be enticing, had rust throughout, major grout issues, furniture that had to be removed because it was unstable and much more. The cabin is an excellent size but the ship is aging so fast that the pillows and couches were, well, you wouldn't want to touch them. The "butler" was crisp, saying everyone is overworked as contracts are extended. Daily canopes were never delivered. Daily turndown service was efficient but even that room attendant struggled to stay awake. Good news: Luminae is fantastic as always in terms of food and service, absolutely superb in every regard. The Cruise Director (don't worry, he's not Broadway bound, he's bound for retirement) slurred his words, mispronounced others and was just amateur. Captain and officers were visible, warm, engaged. The line did a good job at warning people about situational awareness in Mexico and Nassau but the locals were warm and very attentive. Bottom line: it's time for Celebrity to retire the ship. Don't expect the warm hostess shown in marketing to hear your requests for maintenance- they know the balconies and furniture is beyond repair, and we have plenty of photos to prove the point (our guess is that a third of all chairs on open decks were in need of painting and maintenance repairs). The elevator to the Retreat never worked, but heck- if nothing else, the Millennium is consistent. It was lousy.
