Booked this cruise as a 60th birthday celebration, and was very disappointed that on final payment we received the itinerary changes. I emailed NCL in December without a reply (this is now standard NCL customer service unless you email the upper management) We then received further Itinerary changes just a couple of weeks before departure. As I had paid for an overnight hotel in Singapore to celebrate my wife's birthday, this was very annoying. (and costly)

Embarcation in Laem Chabang was a challenge, a two and a half hour drive seemed way too long, to then be stuck at the Mammoth container port for two days was just not acceptable. Worse than that was the fact that NCL (nickel and dime world champions, 10 years in a row) charged us $40 to take a shuttle off the port to Pattaya. Just speaks volumes about this company's complete change in customer service. Cancel two ports, no compensation and charge you to escape the constant beep, beep, beep of the container loading. Outrageous. Then as a double down, our first port was Ho Chi Ming but nowhere near Saigon. Another container port and another two-hour drive to the city. Why? the actual cruise port is situated twenty minutes' drive from the city center, obviously, it was cheaper to port like a Ryanair flight destination. Not enough time to actually see the city. We then proceeded to Singapore and instead of an overnight in this amazing city we had a one am departure, they didn't mention that the next day became a sea day just wedged it in and hoped no one would notice. Ok, we paid over £7,000 for this cruise (Saphire latitudes so not Virgin cruisers) The level of total disdain by NCL is not acceptable, I even emailed Harry Sommer (CEO) as im100% sure that he wouldn't be happy sitting in a container port and have his cruise changed so many times.

The sad thing is that we loved Jewel, and the staff were fantastic, once again the cost-cutting and penny-pinching ruined what could have been a great vacation. Running out of Rose wine on day two, ruining out of Budweiser on day two, buffet items reduced in quality to the point we just didn't bother.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Perfect location, great cabin steward, and a functional stateroom. lacking in storage and a very small bathroom (much bigger in the Club Suite).

Port Reviews

Bangkok (Laem Chabang)

Way too far away, a monstrous container port that you cannot walk to anywhere. Terrible departure port two hours from Bangkok. If you love the beep, beep, beep of cranes loading containers you will love Laem Chabang.

Nha Trang

Why port so far away from Ho Chi Ming? Unless you take the extortionate NCL excursion for nine hours you will only have a very short time in the city. Once again, nothing outside the port just 50 taxi drivers looking to charge as much as they can for a four-hour drive to enjoy an hour in a city.

Langkawi

Loved Langkawi, had a great driver, and loved a beach day in this tranquil Malaysian island. Cant wait to go back.
