In 2015, we already went on a cruise in Norway on P&O Britannia (our story can be read in Russian at this link: English traditions on a P&O cruise on the new Britannia ship https://forum.awd.ru/viewtopic.php?p=6168033#p6168033). This time we decided to go to the northernmost point of Europe - the North Cape. We chose a cruise on the MSC Preziosa from July 14, 2023. Exit from Hamburg.

Overall I liked the cruise, 4.5 out of 5

Cabin Review

Balcony Aurea

Our original cabin on deck 13 reeked of smoking. It turned out that there was a smoking area above us, on deck 14 near the pool; smoke entered the cabin through the ventilation and through the open balcony door. The corridor also smelled of tobacco. After complaining to the reception we were transferred to another cabin and added an onboard credit

Port Reviews

Alesund

We had time left before our boat cruise around Hjorundfjord. The excursion started at 1:15 p.m. and went ashore at 10:10 a.m.

We decided to see the city by driving a road train.

It was not possible to buy tickets for 10:30, I had to buy for 11:00 for the “little train”, the cost for two is 540 NOK if you pay by card. It's about $55.

The train goes throughout the city with a stop at Mount Aksla, where you are given 15 minutes of time to take photographs from the observation deck.

Ålesund is rich in Art Deco houses, built after the fire of 1904, when the entire city burned down. After this, the law prohibited the construction of wooden houses.

Cruise around Hjorundfjord on a catamaran.

The excursion was supposed to start at 1:15, a crowd gathered at the pier, but they took us to the boat about 20 minutes late. They gave us a huge catamaran, the seats in the cabin were comfortable, the windows were large, although sometimes glare interfered with photography.

I only went out into the open once; it was unpleasant to be there because of the strong wind.

The duration of the excursion is about three hours. The guide spoke good English. But there was so much information, telling more about the farms and highways along the coast than about the wonderful nature.

The fjord is huge, much larger than in Stavager, where we were in 2015.

The mountains around are up to 1700 m, there are many waterfalls. The snow on the mountains has not melted yet, but as our guide said, this will not last long.

I wanted to take pictures of every place.

We returned to the ship at 4:25.

We were lucky with the weather, there was no rain all day, although the forecast promised 75% rain from 2:00.
